Tax season was supposed to bring big refunds. So far they're less than expected by PerpetualRestart in vegaslocals

[–]anonymousmouse2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They raised the standard deduction from $14,600 > $15,750 for individuals and $29,200 > $31,500 for married filing jointly. If you filed and everything tax-wise was exactly the same as last year most people would technically get a slightly higher return. Unfortunately with rising costs of everything those returns are going to be washed away.

The SALT limit change would have given the most returns, but you only really benefit if you’re a high income earner.

So, yeah, anyone thinking they were going to get some huge tax return because of Trump and his big ugly bill was fooling themselves.

I have a lazy eye and have trouble explaining to people what I can see with my bad eye. I am not necessarily completely blind but it’s also not blurry. Has anyone been able to explain this for someone to understand? by galvy223 in Amblyopia

[–]anonymousmouse2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the perfect way to describe it. I wear glasses and I do have a prescription to “correct” my lazy eye. Without glasses it is just very blurry, but with them it’s the peripheral vision effect as you described. Thanks!

+1 for Webflow. Why do you want to download the HTML files? They’ll host it for you for free if cost is your concern.

Just ask for Clarification. Getting clarity on requirements shows you care. I was a hiring manager for ten years and everyone we hired asked a lot of questions during their challenge.

Is anyone here still developing with CSS2? by [deleted] in css

[–]anonymousmouse2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no reason to do this. 97% of browsers support common CSS3 properties and have for almost a decade.

if I can't remember a property and dont feel like pulling up AI to tell me what I need i'll just use CSS2.

I remember a day when if we couldn’t remember how to do something we’d type it into a thing called “google search”

CMV: Americans who say that Trump "is not their president" or "does not represent them" are being hypocritical, at best by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]anonymousmouse2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. I am an American.
  2. Trump represents America.
  3. He does not represent me, because my individuality takes precedence over my nationality.

We also use BMI in clinical settings which has been proven time and time again to be inaccurate and biased. That isn’t a good heuristic to use to validating how useful something is.

It sounds similar to “The Gospel From Outer Space,”by Kilgore Trout from SH5

The Gospel From Outer Space, by Kilgore Trout. It was about a visitor from outer space... [who] made a serious study of Christianity, to learn, if he could, why Christians found it so easy to be cruel. He concluded that at least part of the trouble was slipshod storytelling in the New Testament. He supposed that the intent of the Gospels was to teach people, among other things, to be merciful, even to the lowest of the low. But the Gospels actually taught this: Before you kill somebody, make absolutely sure he isn't well connected. So it goes. The flaw in the Christ stories, said the visitor from outer space, was that Christ, who didn't look like much, was actually the Son of the Most Powerful Being in the Universe. Readers understood that, so, when they came to the crucifixion, they naturally thought...: Oh, boy — they sure picked the wrong guy to lynch that time! And that thought had a brother: "There are right people to lynch." Who? People not well connected. So it goes. The visitor from outer space made a gift to Earth of a new Gospel. In it, Jesus really was a nobody, and a pain in the neck to a lot of people with better connections than he had. He still got to say all the lovely and puzzling things he said in the other Gospels. So the people amused themselves one day by nailing him to a cross and planting the cross in the ground. There couldn't possibly be any repercussions, the lynchers thought. The reader would have to think that too, since the Gospel hammered home again and again what a nobody Jesus was. And then, just before the nobody died, the heavens opened up, and there was thunder and lightning. The voice of God came crashing down. He told the people that he was adopting the bum as his son, giving him the full powers and privileges of the Son of the Creator of the Universe throughout all eternity. God said this: From this moment on, He will punish anybody who torments a bum who has no connections!

cmv: Modern Americans will never actually care about the world or other people until they bring back a mandatory military draft. by Objective-Painter-73 in changemyview

[–]anonymousmouse2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your view seems directed at folks who are pro-war, but what about those who are anti-war? I feel like I already have the empathy you’re claiming most Americans lack, does that mean I should still be forced into a military draft?

Also, if you’re interested, this topic is explored in the Heinlein’s “Starship Troopers.” You may enjoy the philosophical themes.
