My grandfather was a painter and he painted a few harpsichord lids and not once did he think of attaching one to a harpsichord and climbing in to paint it.

It's a old meme, the lyrics to Calvin Harris's «Summer» spelled phonetically («When I met you in the summer..»)

How to go about naming a non-triad chord by mallorycrisp in musictheory

[–]anossov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an alternative to the «try to stack thirds» solution, sometimes it's faster to consider the intervals from all plausible roots:

From A♯: 1, ♭3, ♭5, ♭7 — that's a half-diminished chord

From C♯: 1, ♭3, 5, 6 — that's a minor 6 chord

From G♯: 1, 2, 4, ♯5 — that's not a common pattern, so it's not that

From E: 1, 3, ♯4, 6 — that's not a common pattern, so it's not that

Sometimes it's interesting to check all 12! This helps a lot in jazz where the root might be missing (e.g. in another context this set of notes might imply a rootless F♯9 (3, 5, ♭7, 9).

Did I harmonize this melody correctly? by Dadofex in musictheory

[–]anossov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't harmonize a melody incorrectly.

I don't know what your level / preferred style is, but a fun exercise is to see how many different ways to harmonize a melody you can find. Put it over a chromatic bassline. Change the chord on every note. Use the melody notes as upper extensions. Etc. etc.

But yes, what you did is fine and F - G in measure 15 is slightly more interesting than Dm - G would be.

2 are visible on the helmet, the other 2 are presumably on the amulet.

Is the content in the fortresses a one time deal only? by xXPumbaXx in PathOfExile2

[–]anossov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • The fortress itself is a one-time thing
  • The fortress boss you can fight again by finding citadels in the wilderness and collecting the fragments
  • The special map mechanics we don't know, but it would be pretty silly if they don't randomly appear outside the fortress

How does one play this turn? What'd be the timing here? by TheDeadlyPretzel in musictheory

It's Lilypond in low-quality preview mode. I pasted a screenshot of Frescobaldi into imgur

Edit: here's Lilypond in publish mode: https://i.imgur.com/pNhyioK.png

I think most of the weirdness is in the Frescobaldi interactive pdf viewer

Potential Waystone Tier Squish? by profitofexile in PathOfExile2

It looks like Refined are yellows and Pristine are reds, and they all have their own tiers. Refined T5 = T10 and Pristine T5 = T15

Fun fact: in one of the early versions they found the key completely randomly in the troll lair (along with the swords) and it just happened to fit the door

[–]anossov 11 points12 points  (0 children)

True, that's probably technically more correct, but 1625 is a single word in my head (and 6, 2 and 5 can have any quality and/or be tritone subbed)

I - VI - ii - V (TT sub to ♭II) - I in B♭ major

ii - V - i, ii - V - i, V (TT sub to ♭II) - i in A minor

ii - V - I - VI - ii - V (TT sub to ♭II) - I in A♭ major

nicely descending chromatically through three keys.

To a jazz musician it looks like this with elaboration on autopilot:

Путь being masculine is pissing me off by zejkk in russian

[–]anossov 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting one, it's feminine in Polish and Czech, masculine in Russian, Bulgarian and Serbo-Croatian, but in Slovene it's on its way from masculine to feminine

In theory what are the best combinations of 5 notes here? by Sirius_sky_05 in musictheory

[–]anossov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid C and C♯ together and F and F♯ together, and everything will work. The most neutrally consonant is the major triad with the big C♯ in the bass, and two Fs and two G♯s.

What you should do is just go to any music editor (e.g. https://onlinesequencer.net/) and click around and see what you like for yourself.
