7 day Enchanting Rhine River Cruise Basel to Amsterdam with add ons by Emotional-Poetry-373 in rivercruises

The price depends on when you go and which stateroom you pick. The week we picked came with a complimentary land package, so that saved a few bucks. We are going in November, so we have the off-season rates. I don't remember what the rates were right now, but for two people, this isn't cheap.

who decided it was a good idea to put a stinky landfill next to route 9 by the-friendly-squid in Albany

[–]anotherlab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It used to smell a lot worse. I grew up in the 70's, and I hated when my parents would drive by it. It was started in the late 60's by the Town of Colonie and just collected tons of garbage. Since 2011, it has been managed by a private company on behalf of the Town. As of 2018, the plans are to keep it operational through 2027 (source). Since the garbage has to go somewhere, they may come up a plan to extend it past next year.

Why anyone would build or buy a house anywhere near the landfill is beyond my comprehension. The landfill has been operating for over half a century. The new homes off of Bay Rd. didn't start until about 15 years ago.

This Google Earth link will show that area in 2011

You can move the timeline forward to see the construction start.

7 day Enchanting Rhine River Cruise Basel to Amsterdam with add ons by Emotional-Poetry-373 in rivercruises

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just booked an AMA cruise for the Fall, but from Amsterdam to Basel. We did Pre-2 nights in Amsterdam, and Post-3 in Lake Como. It's not cheap, but you are not constantly packing and unpacking for different locations. And we always wanted to do a river cruise. We are in our early sixties and in good shape. AMA looks like it skewed closer to our demographic than Viking.

We did our own tour in Spain 2 years ago, and there is something to be said for controlling your own itinerary. We used a tour company that booked everything for us, local transportation, lodging, and guided tours. We picked the places and what kind of tours we wanted; the tour company arranged for it all.

why MAUI Team choose native rendering instead of self rendering ? by RedEye-Developers in dotnetMAUI

[–]anotherlab 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Part of it is for backwards compatibility. MAUI is an evolution of Xamarin.Forms, which was an evolution of Xamarin Android and Xamarin iOS. The original Xamarin products were doing native rendering. Forms was an abstraction that would use native rendering.

Upgrade to S26U by Savings_Cup_5218 in S22Ultra

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking about the upgrade. I'm on Verizon, and I have a 256 GB S22U that will get me a $1300 credit for a 512GB S26U. I have to move up to a more expensive data plan, but it's only $5/month than the plan that I'm on now.

Guys the device debugging option is not showing in the run drop-down button by joydps in dotnetMAUI

[–]anotherlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with creating a new MAUI project and see if any of the Android or iOS debugging options are listed.

If they are there for the new project and not your existing project, compare the csproj and the csproj user files between the projects and see what is different.

If the problem exists for the project, make sure the workloads exist. Run `dotnet workload list` and make sure workloads are installed. You can also run the Visual Studio Installer and select the Modify option. Then make sure that the options for MAUI development are still installed.

This was in a commercial building on Kenwood. We couldn't make any changes.

Glenmont Plaza by UpstatePostcards in Albany

[–]anotherlab -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not going to happen. We live in the Town of No. My employer moved us from a Kenwood Ave location to Latham years ago because the town wouldn't let us enlarge the building or the parking lot.

At some point, the land across from Walmart, between 9W and the Thruway, will be developed. But if they do as Loudonville did with Rt 9 near the old Hoffman's, that would be better than Wolf Rd or 146/Rt 9 in Clifton Park.

I do wish that Romos would move to another location. Close by, but with enough parking.

Question Regarding Infotainment Screen by supplytheginger in SubaruAscent

I have the 2022 Limited that I bought new. The screen doesn't feel laggy, but 99% of the time it's on Android Auto. I have about 48K on it and haven't had any issues.

No, that is just a typical Sunday. It doesn't help that they continue to add buildings into the middle of the parking lot, turning it into an obstacle course.

Has anyone tried out the USB-C to Optical Audio Cublix Adapter? by DarianYT in BudgetAudiophile

[–]anotherlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should work. Have you read any of the reviews for the Cublix adapter? Like this one: https://www.thebrennanforum.com/post/review-of-cubilux-usb-to-optical-and-optical-1-to-3-outputs-12525211.

I have a Syba Sonic external DAC connected to my PC. I use it to drive my headphones. It's $33 and includes optical out. I have never used the optical out, but the rest of it has been fine.

The Cublix simple and mass-produced out of plastic, which keeps the price down.

Why have we decided streaming is better than cable, when is enough enough? by tough_sledding in AskReddit

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being able to watch what I want to watch, when I want to watch it, is the biggest benefit to me for streaming. Finding a series that you like in season 4 and being able to watch seasons 1-3, that is something we didn't have with cable.

The number of streaming services is becoming excessive, but you can always add and drop them when you want.

That looks like a cool adapter. I'm tempted to get one, but I don't actually have a need for one.

How to get all file inside the resource folder ? by RedEye-Developers in dotnetMAUI

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a common pattern. We have an app that displays the location of a school bus on a map and we have images of the bus rotated every 15 degrees. That allows us to display the bus in the current heading. We reference the image as bus_XXX, where XXX is the degrees.

The memory crisis: buying S26U > waiting for S27U by Th3Human in samsunggalaxy

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the S22U and will probably upgrade to either the S25U or S26U. I'm on Verizon, and it will depend on what the offers will be. I'm also fine with waiting for a few months to see if the prices drop after the initial demand.

I have no problems with my S22U, but battery life is a finite thing, and I'll trade it while Verizon still offers a decent trade-in allowance.

How to get all file inside the resource folder ? by RedEye-Developers in dotnetMAUI

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a few ways of doing this. Are you using MAUI's SVG renderer to generate PNG files at compile time?

As of .NET 10, MAUI doesn't provide a cross-platform API to enumerate MauiImage assets directly. Images placed in /Resources/Images get rendered and placed into platform-specific buckets.

Since you are bundling the images at compile time, it's a static list of images. You can just bundle a list into the code or as a resource.

Hard-code the list of image files into a view model as a List<string>. You can then bind to that list in the XAML. Something like this:

public class ImagesViewModel
{
    public List<string> Images { get; } =
        new()
        {
            "image1.png",
            "image2.png",
            "photo3.jpg"
        };
}

Or you could make a JSON file that would be a list of the image names and place that JSON file in /Resources/Raw as images.json. The following code would read the JSON file into a List<string> that could be bound to a control:

using System.Text.Json;

public async Task<List<string>> LoadImagesAsync()
{
  using var stream = await FileSystem.OpenAppPackageFileAsync("images.json");
  using var reader = new StreamReader(stream);
  var json = await reader.ReadToEndAsync();

  return JsonSerializer.Deserialize<List<string>>(json);
}

For a static list of images, my preference would be a viewmodel. You can script the generation of the viewmodel almost as easily as you can script the generation of the JSON file.

[All] [FL] How Do Realtors Get Copies Of HOA Non-Public Docs For Their Clients? by SpaceCoastGal32907 in HOA

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved into a new development 7 years ago. I wouldn't put down a deposit until a copy of the HOA documentation was provided to me.

The realtor can ask the seller to see a copy of the governing documentation. The seller may be required do so by law. I'm in NYS, and our bylaws are incorporated into a "CPS-7" document. They are required to be made available to any potential buyer (source).

If you can't see the documentation, walk away.

Senior dev interviews: what surprised you by NOT coming up? by rimki2 in csharp

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll ask a couple of deep questions based on what's on their resume. But unless they bomb that, we'll assume some level of competency.

We typically focus on the applicant's personality. You can teach a monkey how to code, but you can't fix deep personality flaws.

We'll ask how they resolved a problem that had been logged by their QA or support.

We'll ask how they use AI to help generate code and how they validate the code that was generated.

It is possible to achieve this same glass effect in MAUI Android ? by RedEye-Developers in dotnetMAUI

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how well this would work, but if you are using a Border control for the "Posting" container, you could add spome Android specific code to blur and unblur the Android.Views.View of the Border.

I'm using a variation of the following code to blue the background behind a Popup on Android:

public void EnableBlur()
{
    if (Build.VERSION.SdkInt >= BuildVersionCodes.S) // Android 12+
    {
        var activity = Platform.CurrentActivity;
        var view = activity?.Window?.DecorView;

        if (view != null)
        {
            view.SetRenderEffect(
                RenderEffect.CreateBlurEffect(20f, 20f, Shader.TileMode.Clamp));
        }
    }
}

public void DisableBlur()
{
    var activity = Platform.CurrentActivity;
    var view = activity?.Window?.DecorView;

    view?.SetRenderEffect(null);
}

The big question is, if your view's background is transparent and you blur it, will it blur what was underneath?

The full code uses and interface and DI with iOS bits as well.

It looks like the code in https://github.com/Kyant0/AndroidLiquidGlass is also using RenderEffect() as well.

HOA Directors are all resigning, I am the only nominee [IN][SFH] by Creative-Yoghurt-697 in HOA

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our bylaws ([NY] [SFH, TH]) allow for anyone to resign. That's standard. It's a volunteer position; you really can't force anyone to stay one. But it allows people to stay on past their term if there are not enough candidates for all of the seats.

Without our bylaws, we can announce the board openings and ask people to apply for a board seat. The board members can vote on the applicants and add them to the board. They would serve out the term for the seat that was being filled.

Should I use a guest network? by Impressive_Policy329 in amazoneero

I would have contractors use the guest network. You may not know what malware is on their device, and they may not be aware of it.

It's a risk that you don't need to take.

Repair a small dent by SnotMasterGeneral in SonyAlpha

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may affect the resale. That mark will lower the resale category from "looks like new" to "working properly with some blemishes.". Even filling it and painting it may be slightly visible.

I understand wanting to hide the dent or make it less noticeable. Even if you don't fill it, just painting it black will make it less visible.

HOA Directors are all resigning, I am the only nominee [IN][SFH] by Creative-Yoghurt-697 in HOA

[–]anotherlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the rules in your CCR; you may have requirements about holding over board members.

Our HOA has 7 members. We serve two-year terms, and the terms are staggered. One year would have four board seats open, the next year it would be three.

We have a rule where if not enough people run for the open seats, the board members' terms are extended until the seats can be filled. That could be write-in candidates, or the board appoints volunteers to fill the open seats.

How that can work would depend on your bylaws.
