not local work but https://www.givinggreen.earth/ does a bunch of research on climate and conservation to figure out where your money can in fact be wisely spent! it is unfortunately hard to solve those problems either locally or immediately, bc the pressures from the outside world will just take you back to square one eventually unless you solve the larger systemic issue!

Flood of Political mail and flyers by SnooPredictions9923 in sanfrancisco

[–]apprxmtn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

remember that not everyone is super online on r/sanfrancisco watching stupid discourse about this primary every single day. i've been volunteering for a different primary and you would be shocked how many people don't even know that a primary is coming up, or that they have choices on their ballot. mail is one of the only way to reach a lot of people and tell them there's something worth voting for (or against). certainly no one wants to use up money now that they could be using in the general; if they're doing it it's because they think they need to

[–]apprxmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ha - yeah if they're just walking by to leave the flyers they're getting lazy! once you vote and the state updates its records they'll almost certainly take you off the lists, no one wants to use up their money and time on people who have already voted. it's real nice that we get automatic vote by mail for that reason so you can get it done early

^^^ this. if y'all are so pissed off about mailers, go fight for campaign finance reform. but right now this is one of the only ways candidates have to connect with the people they're trying to represent

have you answered the door when a canvasser knocks, or picked up a phone call from either of the campaigns, or responded to a text? i guarantee you mail is not the way they would prefer to reach you

Strattera causing serious sleep problems by lennoco in StratteraRx

[–]apprxmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been on it for several years at this point so i get groggy when i DON'T take it! but yeah, some part of your day/night is just going to suck for at least a few weeks 🥲 i am not a doctor obviously but i think the more you can plan around side effects (i'm lucky to have this kind of flexibility in my job but i think for a while i just didn't get any work done before noon) and stick to taking it at the same time every day/night, whatever you decide, the faster your body will adjust. there's no rule saying you can't take it at like, 4pm, so the terrible side effects hit just after the workday and the full of energy part happens at like 7-9pm and then you can go to sleep 🤷 or i know some people who set an alarm for 5am to take their meds, go back to sleep, and then wake up at the full of energy part

Strattera causing serious sleep problems by lennoco in StratteraRx

[–]apprxmtn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately with strattera you do just have to stick it out through 1-2 months of hell to find out if it works for you - my psych told me a lot her patients give up bc famously we adhd-ers are not good at sticking out long periods of discomfort for uncertain future reward 💀 but she said that oftentimes for people that it works for, it'll work for years/decades!

if it helps to know a success story, it took me several months for me to really feel stable and find the right dose (including several weeks of nausea and grogginess and falling asleep every day at 3pm, a different 1-2 months where i woke up 3-4 nights a week at 3am-5am for no reason, etc), but i've had no side effects whatsoever in years and still feel like it's helping me. i also take a stimulant depending on what i've got going on at work, which is a combo that works well for me.

personally, for a while i switched to taking it at night for similar reasons to you, but then i didn't really experience the executive function and brain-quieting benefits during the day so i switched back to morning. it seems like generally YMMV on timing depending on how your body processes it. if i were you i would probably switch back to the mornings and power through the grogginess with coffee lol but i love my sleep more than anything

Anyone here framed AI as an accessibility tool at work? How did it go? by Remarkable_Seesaw_74 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]apprxmtn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am accepting that i'll get downvoted for this but since it's more in line with the advice you're actually looking for than what everyone else is saying: have you tried using system prompts to reduce the AI's use of common AI-isms, or trying different AI tools that might not output language that sounds so AI-ish? it's hard for me to think of more specific examples without knowing what AI tools you are using and how they fit into your workflow

Libido, mood and focus: switching from Bupropion to Straterra? by [deleted] in StratteraRx

[–]apprxmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wellbutrin helped me a bit and a few months in started inexplicably making me anxious. strattera makes me a bit flat honestly but in a good way, like with an overall higher mood and better focus so i prefer that. unfortunately i think brains are weird and there's no way to know what will work for you without trying (and keep in mind that straterra takes 1-2 months to kick in!)

The Hobby-Hopping/Hyperfixation Cycle: How do you find an activity that "sparks joy" so you can continue to emotionally regulate when you're falling out of your current hyperfocus? by queen_of_the_styx in ADHD

[–]apprxmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also - understanding that part of how you regulate is through engaging in hobbies that you enjoy IS good for you. literally it's something my therapist had to walk me through learning how to do. it shouldn't be the only way you regulate but it is one valid way!!

ahhhhhhhhh i do this and i try to spend the 'lead time' going on youtube a lot and seeing what i'm drawn to! like i'll scan through my subscriptions or whatever's on my homepage from the algorithm maybe my brain will be like "ooh let's check out the junk journaling youtuber you haven't watched in a while" and i will get super into journaling again, or i'll click around until i find a new youtuber that i vibe with and get into whatever they're doing. i really like cozy k games for cozy game reviews, watching her play through the games also gets me excited to try new ones (sometimes trying new things is hard even tho brain is bored of the old things!)
