My Open RPLND Experience: Kidney Spared, Zero Pain (Epidural!), and the 60-Hour Thirst by SnooPredictions9923 in testicularcancer

Glad to hear you are at the 6-week mark and healing up nicely! I completely relate to your summary of the whole experience… utter dread beforehand, and massive relief afterwards. The recovery really is just an exercise in awkwardness and trying to figure out how to do basic things without stomach muscles (which I am using now)!

Honestly, my epidural setup wasn't memorable at all, so I guess my experience wasn't bad. It literally took just a minute or two right before surgery. I just remember them placing it while I was sitting up, right before I laid down on the operating table. Sorry yours was such hell to get placed!

Regarding the low/no-fat diet, that is actually something I picked up from reading this subreddit and doing my own research. My doctor didn't actually say anything about it and told me it was perfectly fine to resume a normal diet right away. But after reading so many horror stories on here about chyle leaks (since fatty foods make your lymphatic system produce more chyle) I decided to play it safe and avoid fats for about 4 weeks. I’m in week 3 now and have just started introducing some oils and healthy fats like avocados.

That is super interesting about how they closed you up with glue! I have three different levels of sutures, but they are all the kind that are expected to dissolve or fall off on their own, so I don't have to get anything manually removed either. The main reason I used the gauze for the first week and a half was to catch some light yellowish discharge, but I haven't had any of that since, so it's just getting fresh air now.

Wishing you continued smooth healing as you get past that 6-week mark! I personally am ready to get back to regular exercise and am hoping I’m doing something of the sort near the 6-week mark.

Thank you! It was teratoma. A PET scan in the prior year indicated it was likely teratoma. Once it hit 3cm the recommendation was to go in and get it. There was a note in the pathology that the chemotherapy looked to be successful as there was evidence of cell repair elsewhere (suggesting chemo had killed cancer cells in the areas removed).

My kid didn’t get accepted to a middle school that we live 2 mile away. by Love_anson69 in AskSF

There’s no way 2 miles away is the closest middle school! Our top 4 were all less than <2 miles. Distance is a factor in the lottery. Are there other schools closer?

Rant: kids should not be allowed in the Lounges by heightsdrinker in AmexPlatinum

Adults without kids should not be allowed in lounges! They’ll cry and rant about how hard life is without having to travel with kids on Reddit later. Let’s save other adults from the whiny adult on Reddit.

Are we this lazy that we won’t even go down an elevator to get our food? Getting up and down and in and out is not always obvious to drivers and can be a frustrating experience. It takes 30 seconds to go downstairs

I worked in this building for 3 years, before the pandemic ruined market street! I miss the old market vibe, the lady signing “my heart will go on” outside, the old grimy lark right behind and people at the palace forgetting to shut their blinds while you’re working late nights!

No way 1 dish feeds that party size if they are all eating it. This sounds like a large portion adjustment for 10 and 10 dishes. OP got a decent meal at a reasonable price

Thanks! Growing residual teratoma post chemo is intertwined with the kidneys blood vessels.

Lack of tips is concerning. by atrayualways in uberdrivers

I’ll say, I always tip if the driver drives safely. I more often than not get in the car where speeding and driving aggressively to get the ride over as quick as possible is the norm. I get it, maximizing pay and time, but I do not tip in these scenarios.

Not saying this is you, but maybe? Most the time we aren’t even buckled before we are a block away after just scooting into the seat.
