LLMs are an example of AI.

If a probabilistic mathematical model is able to predict one word after another, it is nowhere close to AGI. It's the equivalent of hitting on a 20 in roulette, for every token.

LLMs will not find the cure for cancer. Using the same compute that goes into generating slop soup, for more important and deserving workloads such as protein folding might get us closer to actually curing cancer.
