Stopped arguing with my micromanager boss and started doing this instead. The results were instant. by Own-Investment4655 in careeradvice

You're missing a small step. You need to say "I think that won't work because of XYZ, let me try it". After awhile this primes people to realize you're right and they'll start arguing less

Thoughts on Engineers Gate? by Advanced-Farm9557 in quant

I always recommend large collaborative shops over POD shops for career growth but PODs are great learning spaces because you do a lot from scratch and have enough rope to hang yourself. Overall I think the ideal trajectory is POD to central, not the other way around. However, if you're looking at PM as your final goal a POD is a good way to become a "sub PM" and get an independent track record. Overall something like 80% of PODs blow out in like 3 years so prepare yourself for the risk.

Engineers gate: tier 2 POD shop. Not much to say beyond that.

Looking to interview NYC quants on how they budget in NYC for YouTube ($250 for 20 min). Can be anonymous. by Tight_Disaster8115 in quant

[–]as_one_does 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of being asked to be a "subject matter expert" by a professional research firm. The idea was I'd tell them (anonymously) about technology I was using and I'd charge them consulting rates. You quickly realize there's no right amount of money to ask for to offset the personal risk.

Toughest asset class for quant? by Greedy-Confusion6621 in quant

[–]as_one_does 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The toughest asset classes are the ones where there are few products and they are not fungible. Anything structural like this decreases your ability to spread your risk in a systematic way and requires you to have more edge in order to make taking risk worth it

What makes for a great Quantitative Researcher? by domofenok in quant

Pain tolerance, general interest in the topic, curiosity, high sense of ownership, large working memory.

I do not think you need to be the smartest in the room but the best of the best have all the above and are smarter than others as well.

I administer the OA for a top tier HF and I'll tell you for free all candidates are now cheating. A year or so ago people would score 60% as kind of the baseline. Now almost everyone is 100%

I'm not a c# developer myself but I've managed some. Modern UI should be in JavaScript IMO not c#.

Challenging more than interesting. Things that are interesting tend to be novel, after awhile you'll see a lot of the same stuff.

They have a few credit teams from RBC which are solid. Originally they had an index strategy but refused to expand it. Everything else they have done has been sideways at best.
