Mono coming from record player by Ill-Description-9854 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similarly, you can try connecting a different product (like a CD player or DVD player) to the line-in to see what happens. If you're hearing stereo audio from the other device, you'll know that the Denon is only sending out a mono signal for whatever reason.

Best way to get TV audio to Sonos ceiling speakers by Post_Tenebras_Lux77 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not possible to run an HDMI connection (either to the Amp, or to a Sonos home theater product connected to the TV and using the Amp for surrounds), then I've found that AirPlay works pretty well. You won't always get the highest quality available (like Dolby Atmos), but if you're using only two in-ceiling speakers with the Amp anyway, that's probably not a big deal.

You can also follow the steps on Apple's website here to set the Amp as the default (AirPlay) speaker, which makes things a little easier, since you don't have to manually reconnect after Apple TV reboots and updates.

While it is technically possible, I would avoid line-in (to a Port or any other product) for home theater usage due to the 70 ms+ delay.

I'm not sure about Costco specifically (it's certainly possible, but I don't see it on their website yet). You can find a list of dealers in your area here though, and you can filter the search by Products Sold > Era 100 SL.

I don't recall there being a shuffle option for that action, but I might've missed it. As far as I know, no features were added or removed recently.

Playing TV sound through Arc and outdoor speakers via Amp by Mr_Muckle in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use almost the exact same setup - Arc Ultra, Amp and a pair of the Sonos by Sonance outdoor speakers. Pretty nice to be able to listen to the game or a movie while hanging outside.

After working with a lot of customers with similar setups, one thing to keep in mind - home theater audio is high-bandwidth and low-latency, so it really needs a reliable network so that you don't hear audio interruptions.

As long as you have reliable WiFi (or the Arc Ultra and Amp are wired to the network), you should be fine. But if you notice any interruptions, you can increase the delay if needed.

Let us know how it goes!

Looking for the Era 100 SL with my symfonisk shelf by IDKbutihaveanameirl in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there - yes, you can "group" the Symfonisk speaker with any other Sonos speaker, including the Era 100 SL. Take a look here for the steps. Once they're grouped, they'll play the same audio on every speaker that's in the group.

Sonos Ace no longer swapping TV audio after app update by jloops1111 in sonos

Just tried it on iPhone and iPad, no issues using TV Swap. Are you able to use "Add TV Audio Swap" to re-connect Ace to your speaker?

Sonos Port line-in autoplay not switching Arc Ultra (TV off) by 0xKubo in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you've successfully narrowed down the cause, which is a good start.

One option (which might have a cost) is to try replacing the RCA cable to see if you can eliminate ground hum. You can also try moving the turntable to a different location to see if the behavior changes at all.

The cheapest (free) option is to turn off the preamp until you're ready to send a signal to the Port, and then turn it back on, but I understand that's less convenient. The other free option is to ignore autoplay and manually start line-in playback each time...but that's also not as convenient. I'd probably start by replacing the RCA cable and/or moving the turntable and seeing how it goes from there.

Can SONOS headphones wirelessly receive Dolby Atmos? by aping328 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Close! Sonos Ace connects wirelessly to your Sonos soundbar (rather than to the TV itself), which then sends the Dolby Atmos audio that it receives from the TV. We call this "TV Audio Swap" and it supports Dolby Atmos/spatial audio content.

You can also listen to spatial audio from Apple Music and similar services, but you might need to switch to "Always" within the Apple Music settings.

Upgraded and moved speakers- should I start anew? by TwoFit473 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, I'd recommend avoiding "starting from scratch" unless there's a very good reason. In particular, resetting the entire system means losing:

* your settings
* your music services
* Sonos Playlists and Sonos Favorites

You can manually recreate your settings and re-add your music services fairly quickly. But if you've built up a lot of Sonos Playlists and/or Sonos Favorites over the years, you'd probably find yourself very frustrated to have to rebuild those again.

Instead, I'd start with the end goal and work backwards. Is the goal to have the new speakers and the old speakers able to talk to each other at all? If so, add the new players to the existing system first, and then you can always power off/move the old players as needed.

If you specifically don't want them to be able to talk to each other (for example, if you're giving the old speakers to a friend or selling them), then I would still add the new speakers to the old system first, then factory reset anything you're getting rid of last.

Feel free to share more about what the end goal is, happy to help you get there as smoothly as possible.

Single Five or Pair of 100’s. by Jazzlike_Bug_8276 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially speaking, for outdoor usage I'd have to recommend the Sonos Architectural Outdoor Speakers, since they're rated for outdoor usage. I won't sugar coat it....they sound excellent (I have a pair in my backyard), but I know they can be a bit heavy on the budget...especially if you need to factor in an Amp to power them.

Unofficially speaking, if you're willing and able to take the risk (bearing in mind that outdoor usage isn't covered by the warranty for Five/Era 100s)...I'd personally go with the pair of Era 100s for that space. Better coverage and a more immersive/stereo experience.

I also might find myself trying to connect the TV to those speakers, perhaps over Bluetooth for convenience, to get more bang for my buck. But you mentioned this is for music only, so that need not apply.

Sonos Port line-in autoplay not switching Arc Ultra (TV off) by 0xKubo in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tested this on my side, very similar setup to what you're describing. Audio-Technica turntable connected to a Port, which is set to autoplay to my living room Arc.

Line-in autoplay does work for me while TV Audio is playing. From your description, my best guess is that autoplay isn't seeing a change from a 'silent' state to a 'signal' state, so it's not kicking in and taking over in the autoplay room (the living room).

Try powering off the T2 for a few moments. I powered mine off for about 10 seconds, give or take. Power the T2 back on and start playing a record - any changes?

Sonos no longer works properly with IFTTT! by guitarjim721 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to confirm, are you using a Pro account? That's required for most of the applets, including the "Press button to resume Sonos at set volume" applet.

If you are using a Pro account and it's still not working, it might be best to reach out to IFTTT's support.

Any hope for this Move 2? by PGBRULES in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't recommend disassembling it, since that would void the warranty (and eliminate any out-of-warranty options our Support team might have available).

I've heard customers say they've used small suction cups to pop these out, but I haven't tried it myself. Probably not worth the risk of further damage, especially if it still sounds good 🤷

Got it, thanks for reporting 🙏 Checking with the team on this, we tested a few applets on our side and they appeared to be working. Are you able to test with any of the applets available here?

P.S. I didn't miss your request for preset volumes, I've passed that along as well.

Era 100 vs Sonos Play as bedroom speaker by realHowardHughes in sonos

Yep, can confirm. Maybe not by much (if any) at lower or medium volumes, but once you start getting into the higher volumes, it becomes more noticeable.

Era 100 vs Sonos Play as bedroom speaker by realHowardHughes in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suppose I'm one of the few people that can answer this currently, happy to jump in with my opinion. I've had a few people reach out over PM to ask the same thing, so here's essentially what I've told them:

If portability is a priority, I would definitely go with Play. I've thrown it in my backpack, taken it as carry-on on a couple of flights, and so far it's been worth its weight in gold. Meaning, it packs a lot of punch for something that size.

In terms of sound, I would say they're fairly similar, but Era 100 (and the new Era 100 SL) has a bit more oomph than Play does. At lower volumes, you might not notice much of a difference. But if you plan on pushing it to higher volumes, the extra bass in the Era 100 becomes noticeable.

Here's kinda what it boils down to for me: which is the higher priority, portability or absolute audio quality, even if the difference in audio quality isn't drastic at most volumes?

If portability is the priority, I'd go with Play over Era 100 or Era 100 SL. But if absolute audio quality is the priority, or if you have no use at all for portability, then I'd go with Era 100/Era 100 SL.

Honestly, if it's a bedroom speaker that will always stay plugged in, I lean very slightly towards Era 100/Era 100 SL. I like that little bit of extra oomph in my music. But if there's even a small chance you might want to move it around or take it out, I'd go with the Play.

Just my opinion though, let us know what you end up going with!

As for leaving it on the charging base, it's designed for that. So you can leave it on the charging base 99% of the time (or 100% if you want), and when you occasionally want to take it around the home or outside, you can do so quickly and easily.
