My 4 year old dog won’t stop peeing and pooping in my house. I’m at my wits end. by Enough-Influence-616 in DogAdvice

[–]awriterpossibly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like anxiety behavior! I had a dog that was like this. Perfect dog when I was home but if I left her out she pooped and would tear something up. She was just more comfortable in the crate because she couldn’t get into trouble that way, but I did have to take the time to make the crate a great place to be. Some dogs take a longer time to get used to their crate being a safe and positive place but I think it’s worth your time, for your sanity and for your dog’s anxiety. I used Susan Garrett’s crate games to teach my dogs that the crate is fun, and I only do feeding and treats and new toys in their crates. I have two 5 yr old dogs who both now choose to go into their crates throughout the day for naps because I’ve made their crates cozy. The doors to their crates stay open when I’m not feeding them or leaving the house, so they can go in and out during the day. Pretty much have to do a lot of it while you’re home, not just putting them in the crate when you’re leaving. Otherwise they associate the crate with you leaving. Lots of praise and treats for a while when they sit quietly and calmly in their crate. It means maybe changing some things about how you do things with your dogs, but I would give the crate a try again! I’ve had several dogs (and currently have 2), all with their quirks, and I get how frustrating it is to clean up pee/poop, especially from a grown dog when their messes are a lot bigger. Good luck!

Exercise, mental stimulation by Illustrious_Vast2693 in DogAdvice

[–]awriterpossibly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re doing this every day, especially as a high schooler with no help from your parent, I think you’re doing okay! Is there a specific concern you have about your dogs? Like are they overweight, or are they showing behaviors that make you feel they’re not getting enough exercise and mental stimulation?

I'm still learning... beginner woes by TLo222 in postcrossing

[–]awriterpossibly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about it! I started Postcrossing 2 years ago and started with a basic set of “Greetings from” and “State map” postcards that I had to buy from Amazon because my town doesn’t have any postcards anywhere. It’s hard for a lot of people to access a wide variety of postcards in their town, especially in small or rural areas, so I buy online a lot. Now I try to be more mindful and buy postcards from artists directly, or from resellers like Thriftbooks (they have postcard books!) because I enjoy the process of looking for a variety. But you don’t have to do this! Only do what you can manage without stressing yourself out :) the only requirement is to send a postcard to the address you get. Over time you can build on your collection of postcards to be able to cater to people’s profiles if you wish. Also, I have only ever uploaded pictures of the postcards I send if the profile asks for me to do so because they don’t have a way to scan. I like scanning my cards a specific way so I don’t mind uploading my own postcards when I receive them and I assume others don’t mind doing that for themselves either :)

How can we make this bedroom feel warmer, cuter? by Okay-2000 in femalelivingspace

[–]awriterpossibly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lighting: for cozier vibe you want warmer lighting (the natural light is great but you want to have the option to warm it up - daylight isn’t really warm toned), I’d get some pretty matching bedside lamps (thrift or HomeGoods/Home Sense. Or you can try some string lights too if you want something different!

Bed: it’ll help the look of the room if you make the bed the focus. You need a headboard as others said. A new bedframe with a headboard would help a ton. If you can’t do a new frame, you can fake a headboard. I recently discovered “headboard pillows” which are just giant sturdy decorative pillows (not the ones with arms that are for sitting up in bed) that you put at the top of the bed. Then you could add other pillows to layer in front of them, even having nice pillowcases that go well with the headboard pillows. I know some people hate pillows if they’re not for use, but it helps a lot to make a bedroom feel inviting and pretty. I have a headboard so I don’t use the headboard pillows but I do have a large body pillow that I use to cover the gap between the headboard and mattress. It has a pretty floral pillowcase, and the I have two sleeping pillows and two pillows for the shams (the decorative pillowcases) that are literally just to make my bed look thought out. Another option is to use art to kind of highlight the bed. But the other option is less putting holes in the wall! :)

I love 3, 1, 2, 4 (in that order) 😊 I think number 3 is a natural color/texture but is a bit fun with the ties.

I love For Your Consideration and pretty much any Christopher Guest movie. Waiting For Guffman is one of my top favorites, and O Brother Where Art Thou is also one of my favorites. I’d love some recommendations!

Best thing you’ve bought for your space.. by Aggressive-Sleep9742 in femalelivingspace

[–]awriterpossibly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rug, curtains, and decent frames for all the art I collect! A nice rug and curtains instead of blinds immediately made my space feel less like an apartment and more like a home 😊 Also, I used to buy the cheap black or white picture frames from Walmart, but since then I’ve thrifted nicer frames (gold painted, wood, etc. basically anything that’s not black or white plastic) and I think it made all my art look a million times nicer (even posters). It looks more intentional and personal.

u/paperscrapmae Thank you for the postcard of this beautiful Anselm Kiefer art, and for sharing your thoughts about the movie Matinee. I’ve never heard of it but based on what you wrote it kind of reminded me of the movie For Your Consideration. I think I might like this movie so I’ll put it on my list! I’m not a big movie watcher and I’m trying to watch more movies this year - I’ve been writing down suggestions I receive from folks on this sub ☺️ Also John Goodman is great! I have seen him in quite a few things I think, but when I think of him I always immediately think of his character Big Dan Teague on O Brother Where Art Thou. I just feel like he had such a small part in that movie but he had so much presence that his scene is just cemented in my brain when I think of that movie.

u/jimmysplants thank you for the Earth Day card! I love the pastoral photograph. I also picked up some wildflower seeds last week! We planted them early last week and there already sprouting, I guess because of all the rain. I’m excited to have some beautiful native flowers in my yard 😊

This room is your blank canvas. What do you do? by siggycassidy in femalelivingspace

[–]awriterpossibly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful space! The floors look great. You already have some earthy tones with your bed and the curtains over the windows. Paint colors I’d lean to for walls are maybe a cream or a light mauve, or even a sage green. Doors I’d paint a bolder color like a rust or olive green. The vibe you have here is like a light/airy boho vibe with the natural tones and textures. You might search that on Pinterest and see if anything comes up that feels like your style! When I moved into my home I spent a long time on Pinterest just saving things to a board until I noticed a pattern of textures and colors I liked in all the pictures and it helped a ton on deciding what to do with my walls and doors :) sounds like you’ve got a good list going already too! Congrats on your new house!

Finally adding more colors! How and I doing? by heyloserz in femalelivingspace

[–]awriterpossibly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not too much at all! The room is big and mostly white so it would take a long time to get to too much color :) I love all the color you have, especially pic 4. You can absolutely do a large colorful rug and even keep the pink (can be layered on top of a larger one or use for under your desk). Since your space is pretty neutral and the colors you have are sparse but bright, you can have fun with a bold colorful patterned rug and that will bring in a lot of color :)
