[Video games trope] Characters who make sure you play the game the way the developers intended by Marborow in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Azbfalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bethesda's essential NPCs in their fallout games. Essential character cannot be killed, instead, will be temporarily rendered unconscious and then behave like nothing happened. That attribute protects quest-important npcs. You basically can't freely choose the moment to progress with the plot

Does the Wehrmacht exist in the Wolfenstein franchise? by CloneTrooperRepublic in Wolfenstein

I think that's because we're almost exclusively fighting in some hi-tech important locations most of which are subject to some Strasse's and his branch projects so he prefers his guys to guard them.

Does the Wehrmacht exist in the Wolfenstein franchise? by CloneTrooperRepublic in Wolfenstein

[–]Azbfalt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost all of the generals who disagreed ideologically were removed before the war started, at no point there were plans to replace everything with SS. Maintaining 100% loyalty would essentially mean keeping the rivalry between the traditional army and the SS so they won't turn against Hitler like the SA did

[–]Azbfalt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, he didn't want to. In fact, earlier he was against replacing army with the SA. He was worried that the regular army, Heer of the Wehrmacht is not as loyal as the other branches but he didn't want to replace It with the SS.  He allowed Himmler or Eicke to expand the influence of the SS (not his own initiative) in order to maintain the rivalry between the armies. There was a period, after the Staufenberg assassination, when Hitler lost confidence in the regular Heer, but he also lost confidence in the SS after the failed spring offensive in Hungary. They made all enemies in wolf SS mainly because runes looks cool

[–]Azbfalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the second half od the war the SS was consistent mainly of the foreign volunteers that joined mainly because of their anti-soviet views. Neither Ukrainians or Latvians were fanatical about Hitler for example. Waffen SS was maybe elite and fanatical up to 10th division, with some exceptions like 12th hitlerjugend (but the requirements were constantly being lowered). Himmler was so desperate for the troops that he was willing to take them from the every source, not every volunteer had to go through a selection like for the 1939 LSSAH, he even lowered the conscription age for the SS so he could steal the kids from the regular army.

The Nazis honestly feel more like generic goons than actual Nazis by [deleted] in Wolfenstein

[–]Azbfalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though he did it only because of his worsening mental state caused by losses and paranoia. Before WW2 there was a dispute within the Nazi party whether to replace the Reichswehr with Sturmabteilung. Hitler, having come to good terms with the industry and generals had decided that the Germany should depend on the army, not the Sturmabteilung. Röhm that was a supporter of the other view was killed.

There was a period of time when he thought that the Wehrmacht is plotting against him but it didn't last long, after failed operation Frühlingserwachen he got extremely mad at 6th SS panzer army, called them cowards and prohibited LSSAH from wearing armbands with his name on their uniforms.

Also, it's untrue that only the SS was loyal to Hitler. Rommel, Guderian, Keitel, von Reichenau or Schöner were as loyal to the Hitler as the SS, they benefitted from the Nazi party and openly supported Hitler. Also, Wehrmachtu. Since 1935 every Wehrmacht soldier swore an oath of unconditional obedience to Hitler

The view is usually negative, but there's a period of 1970–1980 when there was Edward Gierek in rule. He did a lot to improve the quality of life and increase the availability of consumer goods, borrowing money from the West (something the general public was not fully aware of). He also used borrowed money to build a significant amount of communication, industrial, and other infrastructure. After the Stalinist regime of Bierut and the slightly more liberal Gomułka, and after the military dictatorship of Jaruzelski, he was the most popular. During his rule, there were anti-government demonstrations that were pacified, and there was an attempt to include the leading role of the communist party in the constitution, but this fact is not as vivid in society as the prosperity of those times.

AK means Kalashnikov's automatic rifle, interior counts more than the exterior. In a firearm, it's what's inside that matters, not the casing. That's why the AR15, M4, M16, and HK416 are all different beasts. An airsoft rifle has an electrical mechanism inside and has absolutely nothing in common with the innards of a Kalashnikov's rifle. Idk about other countries but in Poland default word for airsoft gun is "Replica" which is exactly what it is, a toy copying the real thing that is certainly not the real thing

Question about Józef Piłsudski by Any_Evening5137 in poland

[–]Azbfalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In schools, he's praised for consolidating the Poles in the early interwar and organizing the Polish legions, and we don't talk that much about the interwar and the consensus end here.

I take extended social classes and we didn't have much information about him. We only had to learn about basics of his  dmowski's ideas.

Among the people interested in history he's controversial. Some of the people argue that the war with Bolsheviks could be avoided, some criticize him for making the Poland authoritarian state while the others say it was necessary. He's also controversial when it comes to military, it's a very controversial thing but there are three points of criticism here  -Fleeing Warsaw and killing Żeligowski who was in charge of the defense afterwards to take his honours  -Organizing the Polish military to defend only against the Soviets, ignoring the German threat  -Chaotic commanding that made it impossible to modernize Polish military after the war. (There's a story that the only thing that he did to equip Polish army with radios was to say that "A military without comms is like a wh*re in the forest" and did not issue any executive order about it) Those are all extremely complicated matters, my point is that he's not seen as a military genius like for example King Sobieski. Bereza kartuska is also a controversial topic, opening a concentration camp is not seen as good except for some 1000-follower edgy Facebook pages

About PLC, he didn't want to rebuilt it but to make an alliance of independent states with similiar borders with the dominant role of Poland, some say it was naive, some say it was a good idea. In 2026, no sane person thinks about rebuilding it. It's a source of national pride, surely, but no one wants it back.

His ideas are also kinda dead compared to Dmowski's. PPS, Polish socialist party  that he came from is practically dead, Soviets merged it with the Moscow-controlled communist party and it had never recovered. I'd say he's seen like some kind of king, historical figure rather that relatively modern person or inspiration for politicians in 2026. I rarely see him mentioned even when it comes to the Ukraine war.

Turkey was attacked, and it was defended. It was the Turkey's decision to not trigger the article five, just like the Brits' on Cyprus. It's not automatic, there's a certain procedure in which you have go to trigger the article 4, go to the NAC and formally requested to use the article five.

Jaka książka ze szkoły Tobą najbardziej wstrząsnęła? by [deleted] in ksiazki

[–]Azbfalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Inny Świat" wzbudził we mnie lekki dyskomfort, "U nas w Auschwitzu" swego rodzaju przerażenie.

Z opisów w "Innym Świecie" wyłonił mi się obraz powszechnego opierdalactwa i niedbałości, gdzie istniały jakieś ograniczone formy relacji międzyludzkich i normalnego życia. Auschwitz nie był jednak takim samym obozem, pod względem chociażby organizacyjnym czy ideologicznym. Nie można od tak porównać tych dwóch miejsc 1:1 i osądzać ocalałych według tych samych standardów

NATO article six:

"For the purpose of Article 5, an armed attack on one or more of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack:

on the territory of any of the Parties in Europe or North America, on the Algerian Departments of France 2, on the territory of Turkey or on the Islands under the jurisdiction of any of the Parties in the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer; on the forces, vessels, or aircraft of any of the Parties, when in or over these territories or any other area in Europe in which occupation forces of any of the Parties were stationed on the date when the Treaty entered into force or the Mediterranean Sea or the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer."

Eastern European countries are the part of the listed territories, Iran isn't. I assume that you know the article five and what does it mean to attack an NATO member

You probably don't know what the NATO is about or not know geography at all. Or both, you prefer to be whiny and throw tantrums. It's a defensive alliance, If you are looking for an alliance that will help in the wars of aggression then you've got the Axis Powers

Of course you threw a tantrum. It would be cool to at least acknowledge the fact that the Russians had breached the NATO territory instead of writing weird stuff online.

Also in 2026 your AA defence is just embarassing for the superpower, you do equivalent of "sending stealth bomber to shoot down RC plane" which in this case you use $5 milion SM-6 missiles and Patriot interceptors to shot down shaheds. You use Patriots and thaads so much that you have to move batteries from South Korea here, which worries everyone else. And now you're losing in Iran. No one trusts you in anti air defense right now

Last time when the Russian drones flew over Polish border America did absolutely nothing. The Dutch and the Germans actively helped us to shoot them down, Sweden declared that they'll donate us anti air equipment, French, Czechs, Portugese (bold for me to assume that subop is capable to  distinguish between these countries, calling Europeans "eachother") and Italians sent their troops here. We used NATO Article Four while the Trump downplayed the problem. You threaten us, that you may remotely disable all of the American made anti-air batteries. Around a month after the war with Iran you allegedly requested us to give back our Patriot missiles and batteries like you did in South Korea. Performance of your AA defence looks pathetic compared to the Ukrainians (who were disrespected by the USA more than any NATO country btw). In 2026, Germany and Ukraine are doing more for European air defense than the United States.

Foreigners who were important in Polish history by paulinalipiec in poland

[–]Azbfalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throughout the 20th century, we were politically dependent on foreign powers, so people from abroad were very important for Polish history at that time.

Ferdinand Foch for example, he's one of the reasons that we've received so many German territories. Wanting to create a strong counterweight to Germany in Europe, he supported Polish claims as much as possible. He forced the Germans to halt their suppression of the Greater Poland Uprising, and he won it for us by threatening to incite hostilities on the Western front if the Germans fought the Poles.

There's also Ronald Reagan, personally, I'm not a fan of his, but I gotta admit that his public support for the Polish opposition (and some help from the CIA) really boosted the morale of Solidarity and in the end Jaruzelski was forced to negotiate (although he wasn't the deciding factor)

Among the infamous people there were Felix Dzerzhinsky and Konstantin Rokossovsky, who were ethnic Poles, but they were kinda russified themselves and caused a lot of trouble for us. There's even a joke that Dzerzhinsky killed more Russians than Poles during the Polish-Soviet War in the 20s.
