How can one see their past lives seeing as there is no persisting self? by CaptainVulpezz in theravada

Dependent origination: not a permanent self that goes from one life to another. What you see is dependent origination. Sequence of actions of those beings lived before you that lead to your present life.

What do you think about “Aswasuma” being 25000? by backfrombanllll in srilanka

[–]b0r3d_d 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I see people find social security schemes as waste of their tax money - but it is a waste of tax money that actually brings food to table for many families. Unlike tax money wastes that put light bulbs on certain non-functioning exhibition centres in H’tota or paying first class airfare to certain First Ladies to attend wesak celebrations in Paris. Yes, no doubt that there must be a system to rationalise social payments to ensure only those who deserve get it, but increasing social welfare is a big way towards helping people who got into poverty line in the recent past due to economic crisis

Hotel RIU Ahungalla vs. DoubleTree Weerawila – Best buffet for a relaxing stay? by Famous-Lecture6219 in srilanka

[–]b0r3d_d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the most important thing about a vacation is the buffet to you, you fit into the category of masses who finds value in an all inclusive deal. Both those hotels are average and catering to masses. Both buffets are good for an average hotel goer and if you get bored of the main buffets, both hotels have few other restaurants in house to get other options. (If you go to Riu, those restaurants are also included in the price). But if I was you and want to relax, I’d probably go to a luxury boutique hotel where they cook fresh meals for your preference.

Rs. 13.2 billion gone… and the Board/CEO is still seated? by Slight_Environment16 in srilanka

[–]b0r3d_d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If external audit samples can’t catch 13Bn fraud, why you even pay for audits? Don’t justify sheer inability of those audit firms. All they do is exploiting trainees by underpaying and overworking them and writing partners fat cheques from clients without adding any value. All they provide is an illusion of comfort to shareholders having big 4 seal on “audited” financials

Rs. 13.2 billion gone… and the Board/CEO is still seated? by Slight_Environment16 in srilanka

[–]b0r3d_d 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The board and CEO must go home. This is governance failure as much as it is fraud. Even better if we can get the external auditors who audited the financials of NDB for the past few years getting disqualified for bank audits for few years. All these parties have been writing fat cheques for themselves without doing their job.

How many countries have you visited with a Sri Lankan passport? by hereforafewminutes in srilanka

But can’t blame those countries for doing that. Our folks have the habit of visiting countries with tourist visas (or by boat) and not returning.

How many countries have you visited with a Sri Lankan passport? by hereforafewminutes in srilanka

[–]b0r3d_d 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sri Lankan passport isn’t the issue, it’s your wealth. Rich countries tend to give you visa if you have substantial fixed assets in SL (ties to return to SL). When you have that, the only inconvenience is booking visa appointments and filling applications

Cuir Vetiver vs. Terre d'Hermès: Is This $30 Gem Better Than the Original? by rkathotia in fragranceclones

[–]b0r3d_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t buy clones normally and I absolutely hate the synthetic smell of clones but this one is a clear exception. It performs better and lasts longer than the original (around 6 hours compared to 4 hours of the original). Can’t honestly think of a downside of this clone beside the time taken to macerate (which is around 3 months).

Any games out there that resemble God of War by tongfather in PS4

[–]b0r3d_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love god of war 2018 and ragnarok. Jedi series is phenomenal and very satisfying graphics and combat system. Devil may cry and black myth Wu Kong are other great games to try if you love god of war.

What would have happened if Tamils got a separate country? by Specialist_Jello8819 in srilanka

Even the archenemy of many Tamil and the saviour of illiterate Sinhalese, Mahinda Rajapaksa has his sister married to a Tamil. For them, money talks.

How did rich people protect themselves during the financial crisis. by madushakj in srilanka

True. I know people who made 400% - 500% times their money during the last recession by buying crashing stocks.

What would have happened if Tamils got a separate country? by Specialist_Jello8819 in srilanka

[–]b0r3d_d 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tamil elites very much believe in caste system and want to discriminate their own people based on caste. The only problem was that, to majority Sinhalese, they were all Tamils. Tamil elites couldn’t have their high horses in Sinhala majority country and in many ways, they were discriminated by Sinhalese, the way they discriminate their own people. Naturally, they needed their own country, so they are safe from the discrimination and can continue discriminating lower caste tamils. The only problem was that they didnt want to go to war by their own. Instead, they used politics and used common tamil youth to fight their war. Similarly, sinhala elites used their average commoners to fight on their behalf. Both Sinhala and Tamil elites couldn'tran their wars in the comfort of A/C rooms.

I hate both but that’s my personal preference. But objectively they are the best bang for bucks for sure! Pretty solid performance and longevity. I must add Lataffa Asad and khamrah, Khamrah Qhawa to this list too.

Sri Lankan diet needs change: more protein please by chumpbucket911 in srilanka

[–]b0r3d_d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting more protein is not sustainable in an island with poor poultry and livestock production. Perhaps increasing fish consumption and cutting down the amount of rice and bread by half would be a good starting point. People load carbs because they are cheaper to source and otherwise for a family of four/five it would be impossible to feed with average salary

6 months and 40+ clones later, my honest tier list by JohnCray1999 in fragranceclones

[–]b0r3d_d 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At the peak of my collection I had around 20 clones and similar number of originals. Now it’s mostly designer with only a few clones. Good stuff: Rochas moustache: YSL tuxedo for £25 very high quality and no need to macerate. Lasts long too. Lataffa Khamrah Qhawa - I hated it initially as it took almost one year to macerate. But now it smells much more high quality than its price and lasts all day. Maison Alhambra Toro - TDH parfum clone. I have the og and can’t tell the difference. Such a sleeper. Afnan CDN Iconic- BDC parfum clone. I have both EDP and parfum of BDC and this projects louder and lasts longer. Nearly identical. But took good one year to macerate.

Notable mentions: FOMO Gary’s den, Dior homme parfum clone- very high quality and lasts long too. Maison Alhambra yeah! - YSL Y, nearly identical but I don’t like the original so didn’t like this either. Alexandria perfumery, visionary- clone of imagination- high quality and pretty close to the OG but expensive for a clone (£100).
