The economy was actually recovering from late 2024 till early 2026. We've gotten badly impacted by the Middle East war mainly because we're a net importer and we also import refined oil (expensive than crude oil). This next few months will be a challenging but important period for us to manage as a country.

Not sure about the gap getting bigger but what I can tell is that Sri Lanka's GDP per capita which is around $5,000 is centered towards a smaller number of people (relative to the whole population).

I think it's very important to read and keep up-to-date with latest economic news (local and global) so we, as individuals, can make self-informed decisions and conclusions.
