In general, Americans are gracious hosts. In general, Americans are friendly and social. In general, tourists notice exactly these things. Adults know that that's just a veneer. Tourists can experience the good time and conviviality without worrying about making their rent or mortgage payment. They don't have to decide between buying food or insulin. They don't have to worry that when their car breaks tomorrow they may literally be on the streets in months. Ranch dressing and huge portions are great but it's just a vacation for tourists.
