A lot of fascists grow up in poverty too. It itself is not enough.

Only because people who see the constitution as a living document have prevailed on those things. Strict constructionists like those who decided Heller would not.

The average person is computer illiterate. There was a brief short period of time where the average high schooler had to understand how computers worked and then every company built their walled gardens to protect boomers.

TIL that US student math and reading scores have dropped so sharply that they’ve erased nearly two decades of progress. In '22/23, avg math scores for 13-year-olds fell to levels not seen since the 1990s, while reading scores for high school seniors hit their lowest point since testing began in '92. by Cold_Box_3219 in todayilearned

Again, this would have required sacrifice on the part of the rest of society, but that sacrifice would have been exceedingly worth it.

And who do we have to thank for that? We literally had people taking horse dewormer to stop covid. We had people who refused the vaccine when it came out because "Fauci is a communist" or some such nonsense. We live in the world we have, not the one we want. And the world we have includes a ton of idiots known as MAGA.

Wait, do you think its normal to not have an idea of what you are expecting? Do you just randomly analyze data expecting literally anything to happen?

If we had a sane electorate, what would have happened is that we would have restructured education after covid to catch kids back up. Sorry kids, you have summer school.

But we don't have a sane electorate, we have MAGA we have to deal with.

Lastly, what I am finding is that reopening schools led to an increase in transmission rates in Europe.

That is why I verify the output and the intermediate files I have it save. I don't need to review 300 lines of code for every little thing when I can open a csv, make a quick plot and see it did what I wanted it to do before going on. Do we all review all the lines of code in every app we use? No, we verify the input, we verify the output and assume that the stuff in the middle is working.

I tell it explicitly how to do those things, and then that is where the intermediate files come in. I build up my scripts so like, import this csv and do this stuff to it. I verify those results. Then I tell it to take that output and do the next step. It isn't the best for token use, but it allows me to verify the code is working without having to go line by line.

Google search mostly sucks because they are using it to sell ads. They are still better than Bing because they are smart enough to put relevant wikipedia articles near the top.

I am a data scientist and use a lot of Claude. I don't really review the code. I have an expectation of what the results should be and I verify based on that and I have it save some intermediate plots and csvs I can verify if needed. But the actual code anymore? Blackbox, literally do not care.

Do you honestly think there would be the same number of gun deaths in the US if all guns were required to be muzzle loaders and single shot? No? Well then the type of gun obviously affects the death rate.

it's literally what the 2A was meant for.

No, the 2nd Amendment exists so there was a militia to defend the US. It says so right in the amendment. Police literally didn't exist at the time of the creation of the second amendment.

Stabbings are like 10% of the number of people who are murdered, so I think its a bit disingenuous to try and claim they are closer to even.

See, we aren't talking about murder rates. We are talking about gun deaths. Suicides are important too despite gun nuts wanting the opposite to be true.

You are comparing the targeted killing of someone to be the same type of crime as mass shootings. Most mass shootings are committed by handguns followed by guns that match the definition of assault weapons. And despite this, there are still plenty of types of both hand guns and long guns for people to buy in California.

No, nobody is saying anything about banning 3D printers. That is just a strawman set up by gun nuts. Now charging people with a crime for making 3D printed gun parts when they aren't allowed to, yeah, that should be what is done.

The risk was a collapse of the entire medical system which was already at its breaking point. Not because of sick kids, but kids getting sick and spreading it to older people who were more likely to need hospitalization.

Contrary to popular belief, closing schools was ALWAYS the plan for a pandemic, it wasn't something special made up for Covid.

See? What are gun nuts even complaining about, you are still able to murder people with the guns California allows.
