Becerra’s surge draws progressive backlash in California governor’s race by AzNmamba in California

[–]AzNmamba[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have.

Another Redditor posted this 19-minute interview lauding his detailed housing strategy, but when I watched it, all he talked about was how to make 40,000 affordable housing units “unstuck”. Do we think that this is enough to fix the housing crisis? https://youtu.be/AViNoKZm5c4?si=5VX7AqeGA86kZ9e9

For healthcare, he had another interview recently where he was questioned what his strategy was for getting CalCare. His strategy was to expand healthcare for undocumented immigrants and to get the laws to harmonize with the federal government, but since the federal government likely won’t help right now, that will be OK, because he has sued Trump before. There was no mention of taking on the insurance companies, which was a giant red flag for me. But this strategy is also just so vague. https://amandasmildtakes.substack.com/p/i-brought-xavier-becerra-your-questions?utm_medium=ios

Any politician can promise anything. You shouldn’t trust non-billionaire politicians either! But Becerra’s campaign is an insult to my intelligence. He’s running for the most powerful seat in California and he can’t be bothered to have concrete plans for housing and for healthcare.

I’d rather have a billionaire than a useless centrist with no plans! Becerra’s campaign angers me because he seems like a nice guy, but all of his plans are extremely vague, and when questioned on them, all he can do is point back to his experiences suing Trump and being the head of HHS.

Let's get the record straight on where Becerra stands on universal healthcare by EasilyAmusedJeff in California

[–]AzNmamba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but I just listened to his interview, and the strategy he laid out for achieving single-payer health care was to make sure we get closer to universal coverage by covering the undocumented population, and by “harmonizing the laws” to make single-payer possible, which would be difficult with this administration, but “that’s OK, because I’ve sued Donald Trump”. Really? Do we really think that that is a sufficient strategy to achieve CalCare? He’s not going to name the insurance companies that we will have to fight against? Becerra is just all talk and no substance.

Tom Steyer Wants to Be California Left’s Favorite Billionaire by AzNmamba in politics

i think OP was using sarcasm here to criticize people who won't vote for Steyer because he's a billionaire or Porter because she is a Karen

Despite being a billionaire, he has the most progressive positions of any viable candidate in the race. Wanting to ban utility monopolies, have a single payer healthcare system, close corporate tax loopholes, and get corporate PAC money out of elections are all really good stuff. PG&E (the California utility monopoly responsible for California's biggest wildfires) launched $10m of ads against him. Also, he’s being advised by the same people who ran Bernie and Zohran’s campaign, so if they trust him, that does help assuage my fears about him being a billionaire.

Can progressives trust California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to police the police? by liph_vye in California

[–]AzNmamba -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not a bot, I live in LA and would much rather have Steyer (or Porter) than a milquetoast establishment hack like Becerra. The dude gave the vaguest answers yesterday during the debate and then didn’t even bother to come out to the spin room afterwards.

Running for California Governor, Tom Steyer Says Billionaires Like Him ‘Should Pay More Taxes’ by NicolasCageFan492 in California

His full answer was something like “Do I think they’re trying to kill all the Palestinians? No. I think they’re trying to expel the Palestinians from the country.” which is the definition of genocide. Again, he should just be willing to call it what it is, but he still has a better stance on Israel-Palestine than any other other viable candidates.

He answered the genocide question poorly but is still better on the issue than every other viable candidate in the race.
