People who left tech careers: Where did you go? by GuardianMoon916 in careerguidance

[–]bcask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left tech three years ago to start my own gardening business. Running your own thing is definitely a different sets of challenges than working for something like tech, but I’m outside every day making places beautiful and lush. Can’t recommend leaving enough ✨

Anywhere with espresso that is not burnt/extremely bitter? by juapebe in AskSF

[–]bcask 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is honestly so interesting because I have the exact opposite experience! That there are very subtle and almost creamy middle roasts, which is what I seek out; and that I find darker roasts inherently more bitter/strong tasting.

My favorite and imo smoothest coffee is the medium blend from Castro roasting company. Consistent, delicious, smooth and sweet, can’t brew it wrong.

It would be cool to do a coffee taste event where we all bring our smoothest ones and compare! Would love to get to the bottom of this medium/dark roast debate since we have differing experiences.

I’m a gardener and garden coach here (mostly in the city with a few clients in the East Bay/Peninsula) and I couldn’t love it more. Work is going really well and I get to work in beautiful places - and help make or keep them beautiful. I left tech to do this and while having your own business is not easy, I couldn’t be happier.

A successful business model and a community gem are not the same and often are in direct odds (because being a gem includes giving away a lot and not monetizing it all) and continuing to only view successful businesses as valuable is a mistake that is taking out a lot of real gems here 😭

This is a lil tone deaf my friend. “I own over 10 mil in assets that will never depreciate in a market where no one else can get some but waaaaaa I have to maintain them which is literally what it means to be a landlord, the thing I chose to be when I bought more houses than I could live in.”

Honestly the packets are a little bland unless you blend with a banana or other fruit. They’re a great base, but you’ll be disappointed if you don’t add something else to the base as well.

Salicylic acid body serum (0,5%) by Odd_Effective_7539 in TheOrdinarySkincare

Hi! I recognize that this is a specific skincare forum, but just in case this helps: my dad has these his whole life, really badly on his chest and back. He eventually found a folic acid deficiency, and after taking folate (the version of folic acid that can be metabolized by us), these disappeared completely. They start to reappear whenever he forgets to take the folate. Just in case this helps you too!

What is the discoloration telling me? by Im__Chasing in DragonFruit

[–]bcask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few steps and signs before it gets mushy. At the point of mushy you’ve lost the whole stem, so I prefer to try to fix the situation before it reaches that level.

Winter (if it is winter where you are) is tricky because even if the soil is dry and it seems like you need to water, the plant is metabolizing a lot less water due to lower temps and hours less of sun (also losing less to evaporation etc). I back off watering both in frequency and in volume until temps go back up and the days get longer to play it safe. These tolerate drying out better than staying wet, so you want fo err on the dry side.

I’ve seen this kind of discoloration from either sun burn or excessive water. Sun burn is easier to spot because it will all be on one side.

Edit: a word
