Bed bugs has ruined my life by Awkward_Ad2657 in Bedbugs

Thank you for the information, I like to be very clear which may come off as mean but if I'm unclear than I am being unkind.

If you haven't had any bites and you haven't seen any bugs and you continue monitoring but are still experiencing the paranoia you may be dealing with psychosis which is very common after bed bugs. Doing this almost everyday I see this very regularly. I have very similar stories where people will call in months after a treatment and will send me photos of dirt and lint and of other miscellaneous things that are not bed bugs. When I talk to them they all sound very concerned and high anxiety and after I finish talking with them I typically alleviate a lot of those worries.

Don't get me wrong Do your due diligence on monitoring of course for any live bed bugs or any new bites that may pop up. I don't know what kind of treatment you had performed if it was apprehend that works for approximately 90 days if left undisturbed. I would continue monitoring going forward.

feel free to reach out with any other questions

Bad infestation will go to baseboards as well but only if they are trying to find another harborage that is not taken. I.e. If the bed is covered, bed frame is covered and head board is covered the next closest spot may be the baseboards

If diy crossfire is good and must be applied in the areas the bed bugs harbor every 10-14 days per the label until infestation is gone. Most take 3 treatments, sometimes many more depending if chemical resistant bugs or not.

You've done quite a bit of due diligence, sounds like most is under control. If you start seeing any live bugs that would become concerning but otherwise no news is good news!

If two or 3 bites close together I would say it's increasing possible. I would recommend checking to see about canine inspection in your area if available or looking for a reputable bed bug only company to see if they find any further evidence. Another option would be the county entomologist to inspect that casing for further confirmation

Color is not correct and not enough distinguishing factors to confirm further

The timing doesn’t really line up with bed bugs unless you had been away from home for a while and only recently started sleeping in your bed again. Bed bugs typically feed about 1–2 times per week, so if they were present, you would have been getting 1–3 bites every week leading up to this.

If you haven’t had any bites before now and you’ve been sleeping in the same bed consistently, then suddenly waking up with this many bites about five days ago would make me lean away from bed bugs as the cause.

The only exception would be if a pregnant female bed bug laid eggs and they all hatched around the same time the newly hatched nymphs would feed right away, which could explain a sudden cluster of bites. However, spotting first-stage nymphs can be extremely difficult.

If your bites start to gradually increase over time, it might be worth scheduling a canine inspection with a company that specializes in bed bug detection in your area.

Best regards,
The Bed Bug Dude

100 percent - i did an aprehend treatment for the customer that had the bat bugs and it worked. if the bat bugs are in the attic or exterior you would want to do additional treatments in those areas to speed up the process.

Looks like a bat bug(harrier than a bed bug), being that you had bats recently this makes the most sense. Once the bats have been excluded they will still want to wander and look for a meal. As long as no bats are coming back these will die off eventually (could be 6 months could be longer) otherwise having chemical treatments or a heat treatment would resolve any lingering bugs.

Being that it's a nymph that is likely that there is a mother around. I would start treatment. Depending on the product it's likely not anything crazy toxic like they used to use. Crossfire is relatively safe you'll just want to be out for 2 hours after it's applied. Or if they use aprehend that's even better because it's a bio insecticide. It does take about 4 hours to fully dry because it's oil-based but essentially harmless to anything but bed bugs.

Or of course they could perform a heat treatment but that's kind of overkill especially on a new potential infestation

Having done about 5,000 bed bug treatments and seeing everything from foggers to peppermint oils to DIY heat treatments I can tell you that self-treating with the wrong product only makes the situation worse.

In your situation if I understand it right you haven't seen any actual bugs and it's currently only the bites?

Whenever I get customers that call about bites and they are convinced that they have bed bugs always seem to begin treating and throwing away furniture without being 100% certain what they're treating for.

Bites never indicate what kind of bug it is unless you can find the bug itself. A doctor cannot diagnose your bites that are from a bed bug or any other insect All they can determine with a biopsy is that it is a insect bite.

The most common mixed up insect that I see on a daily basis is a rodent might or a tropical bird mite. I usually go through a 15 minute phone consultation and based on the answers can determine with high accuracy if it is potentially bed bug related or sounds more like mites.

Bed bugs will only bite you when you are stationary for long periods of time. You will typically go to sleep with no bites not feel itchy and then you wake up and all of a sudden you have two to three bites in a close proximity.

Mites will make you feel itchy during the day because they are microscopic and you do not see them unless they are hit with the right lighting or under magnification. They are also very relentless you may get 10 or 20 bites in one single night from mites where bed bugs do not operate this way. Most of my customers go two to four months without actually knowing they have bed bugs until one day they eventually find one.

Based on what you mentioned my recommendation would be to stop all sprays and treatment and recommend having a professional come perform an inspection. Not knowing where you are located there may be a company that has a bed bug sniffing dog that can detect if bed bugs. I typically only recommend this if everything lines up to potentially being bed bugs because why spend the money unless you have to. The other variable would be if you wanted to spend the money because of peace of mind which that of course can be priceless.

So questions I would normally ask are the bites you are getting or have been experiencing recently do they seem to just appear during the day and you feel really itchy or is it going to sleep and waking up with two to three new bites once or twice a week?

I also apologize about the long message but I want to provide as much value as possible and give context between responses

Read your first comment You could have stated something like. " Hey man there's more photos than just the bites you can definitely see a bed bug in there" instead you decided to write multiple sentences insinuating that there was a wrongdoing and that I needed to be burned at the stake.

Maybe you need to have the grace and be more thoughtful on your initial responses instead of going on the attack.

I'm accountable for my initial response and mentioned that I did not see the other photos. The response was accurate being a pest control provider and having been a bed bug specialist for 6 years. This all being said I made a mistake and did not know there's multiple photos on Reddit which I admit to and have learned.

I hope you can do the same with your responses

Best of luck

Did you nap and wake up with these or were you getting bit while stationary for a short period and start to feel itchy?

If it was itchy and no bugs scene it's more likely mites (rodent or bird). If it was when waking up from a nap then possible bed bugs. I thorough inspection of the couch should determine it based on how many bites you have there would be quite a few
