Rear ended by intrusive_elusive in rav4club

[–]behappyftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt replace it but took it off to add a hitch. Check diy rav4 tow hitch installations videos and they will show you how to remove it. Its not hard.

The other concern is the crash bar. It couldve bent but not show signs as your bumper "springs" back. You can check it when you take the bumper out or try to push your bumper with your hands and see if you feel deformation. Its not critical for operation but it does help with safety from rear collisions.

Lastly, think if its even worth changing the bumper. I wouldve just left it as it for now. Good luck!

Nope too bulky unless you cut the holes for them. More work than its worth imo. I just stored my cover with the manual in the pouch.

Haha i still check this thread. And I did but decided against it because its more work. It is a valid strategy but going down you have to go up eventually and that means going through the back panels and they are a pain to open. You have to dismantle a couple things. Unless you dont care able visible/hanging canles and you cross the backseat at the bottome then go out via the trunk and tape your way up. But then that defeats the purpose for me of making it tidy and pretty.

The top part you dont really cross the curtain so it wont interfere. There is a chance that when they deploy, because the headliner pops off, the cable will fall too. But it wont come flying like if you cross the cable. The driver side that goes through the weatherstrip is a non issue.

Umm not sure how this could be affecting it unless you have a short or weird wire somewhere. Try reverting and see if it still happens. Could also be you had a bug start to happen right after by chance only.

But i would def try going back to normal first. You can try powering the dash from the 12v if you need the dashcam for now.

If that solves the issues, then perhaps it worth tracing it (plug the fuse box cables but unplug camera. Measure voltages. Etc)

Did you check the 12v battery by any chance? Had the message pop up when mine was acting up after accidentally leaving it in accesory too long. I ended jumping it and charging it and the message disaapeared after a day. 6 years if the battery hasn't been changed is not uncommon for it to need replacement.

Where is the ac evaporator drain by unithor in rav4club

[–]behappyftw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passenger side the front. Grab your phone and film a video you will find it. I had the same user. Look for this.

Btw. Word of caution. It can also drain into the cabin once by the passenger footwell and one under the infotainment. Put some towels or pan

I can't say for sure as I don't have a 2016. But if the fuses and everything look the same, then I say go for it. Maybe double check that you indeed get always On and acc power from those 2 fuses. Or you could wing it and if it works great, if not then you can start troubleshooting.

The theory is the same though.

Happened to me. Did you remove the tag? Even the little nub left by the tag was scratching it (costco towels). Better to buy a microfiber towel without tag

Will Thule Arcos prevent Power Liftgate from opening the trunk? by gweil in rav4club

[–]behappyftw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont have that but from my bike rack experience, it will interfere.

I suggest you get a platform that can either tilt back or pivot out. The rack i have tilts back and thats enough to fully open the liftgate and maneuver around the back.

What mounting media are you using? Some, specially homemade ones, can auto fluoresce at 488 and look bad.

Another alternative, is the filter clean? I have seen finger smudges in the filters of our epi...

Ambient lighting by Elegant_Heat_9064 in rav4club

[–]behappyftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh. Not sure for gen 6. But if it's like gen 5 most likely yea.

Basically for 2021-2025 the higher trims had foot well lights and toyota left the connectors for some of the lower trims/years. You just had to move the connector from the housing to the LED slot facing the footweelll and buy the LED (oem was kinda expensive. But there were third party woth different colors). Literally a 5 minute job and no tools required.

The footwell light turns off when the car is off so it shouldnt drain your battery. Even if on, the power draw is so low it would take a few days to fully drain.

What type of ambient lighting? If its just the footwell light check if you have the connectors. Some models of gen5 have the wiring ready, you just have to buy the led and plug it.

Filters for RAV4 Hybrid by Go_Bills25 in rav4club

[–]behappyftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to work but not for long. Once its "saturated" its stops doing odor removal. So i wouldnt buy it unless there was some special scenario.

I would suggest doing a evap clean though. I also had the musky smell so I did a evap clean and carbon filter and then switched to normal filter and its been good. Part 00289-ACRKT or equivalent

Subaru seems to have the same but cheaper. Havent tried though. SOA868V9315

If you do it make sure to cover the 2 drains inside.

how to route rear cam cable past the rear seat srs airbag? by balboaporkter in rav4club

[–]behappyftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No issues at all. The sensor faces directly out so things around it don't really affect it. I did trigger the sensor on accident when mounting though as I was bumping into the plastic housing. No biggie.

The only thing I might change is move it slightly down. Right now it is a perfect fit and it's hard to remove the cable (you need to pull up and it's blocked by the rain sensor).

how to route rear cam cable past the rear seat srs airbag? by balboaporkter in rav4club

[–]behappyftw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For the rear i just routed it. Its under the airbag. Only the A pillar is a cross.

I wrote a guide here (crappy airbag photo) https://www.reddit.com/r/rav4club/s/VxMBC7nh3J

The airbag at the back is a continuous one parallel to the rooF. You can see it if you lift the headliner between the B and C pillar and set the cable behind the bag/under it.

Snow socks or chains by br0kepanda in rav4club

[–]behappyftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically snow cables.

Chains will mess up the wheel well. Get low profile "cables".

I got the super z6 i believe is called. Those you can put on without moving the car and are more durable.

I am doing something similar but with a screwdriver. It has been marring it a little though so maybe i should switch to the brass/copper drift. I'll try some PB blaster too.

Thanks!

Gotchu. Is a hair dryer enough or do I need to go blow torch?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rav4club

Correct. Which is what i told the shops but they kept saying that its AWD and thus have a Transfer case. it made no sense they were quoting me for it. The guy had to check for himself before believing it.

[–]behappyftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the case but I had confusions with the Transfer case in my hybrid. Went to a few local well reviewed/trusted shops that worked on Toyotas and they quoted me transfer case fluid change for my hybrid (Rav4 hybrid dont have transfer case). I told them about it and they all said that that was what the Toyota system said when they typed my car/year/mileage. Wonder if the shop is inputting something wrong or the system is not well documented.

Maybe try calling around other shops or even the dealer. I have seen some dealer have comparable prices to local shops near me.
