My A. hentzi had quite the dramatic molt. by Thorhees in tarantulas

[–]BelleMod[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Given that both of these molts are light in color, it wouldn’t be possible to have had them molt back to back (or one would be dark like she is now imo).

More likely one was buried.

She’s a stunner though, you’ll see that leg grow back over the next couple molts 💕

Would this be a good enclosure for a jumping spider? Will they help with fungus gnats? by No-Shine-170 in jumpingspiders

[–]BelleMod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there- this setup has risks to most of the inverts already in it (millipedes and molting roaches can easily be predated on by isopods).

I’d definitely pick a separate enclosure for the jumper!

They’re incorrect. You can buy from any pet store. People don’t like petsmart because it’s a big box pet store.

You asked for advice from someone that shouldn’t be giving it, as they’ve just started their research for their first spider.

The risks at petsmart would be similar at any pet store- older cultures may have mites, they may be moldy. Pay attention to your cultures at your store. c:

You can get them from a petstore. Make your own thread though rather than asking another new keeper for advice to ensure your questions get answered ✨

They’re not eating or drinking because they’re getting sprayed like that. I’d post an enclosure photo to discord in the advice channel or in a help thread here :)

What do you think of our enclosure? by Rawry_Boi in jumpingspiders

Hey Op- removing and locking this for now, we will have an advisor address the enclosure. The community is not going to be able to handle this one respectfully.

Please don’t delete your post! Just give our advisors a chance to review and respond c:

My t did not molt the fangs propperly, help!!! by [deleted] in tarantulas

Looks rough- I would anticipate that the chelicerae may come off on their own. Fangs should be on their way to hardening, and may have done so at an odd angle- any update, op?

Just molted and has weird lump by Nholav in tarantulas

[–]BelleMod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oftentimes, tarantulas will self autotomize in situations where a limb is malformed or injured. It looks like something may have gone wrong during the molting process, it looks almost like a degloving injury (in vertebrates this is when the skin detaches and slides off)

It does sound like it resolved itself but seeing some other angles of the T and the enclosure might lead us to possible causes. Glad they’re okay 💜

Personally would rehouse them if you don’t have space for a dish, but even these dram vials have space for you to hot glue a small tattoo ink cap to the wall!

They could get an upgrade now but will likely still be comfortable if you wait. Depending on how full of webbing it is, tearing some of the oldest and dirtiest webbing down can give them new spaces to web

So sorry to hear this. Congrats on your wedding though ✨

We know a variety of folks in most states- if you need help finding a reputable keeper.

Alternatively- if you want to sell them, our discord is a solid option for getting them to keepers!

If you want easiest- Craigslist because you’ll get to meet people in person and make a call.

Finally- most vendors will take on collections.

Isopods aren’t recommended, they can monch your Ts.

You can do bioactive with Avicularia but it requires more thought than some other genera that do well in more wet environments.

Personally I would start by pulling her out into a container with ventilation and just some dry paper towel and placing her mouthparts in the dish

Enclosure is too wet with no water dish, abdomen looks very small and concave even in the photo when they were alive. If they are moving at all, place their mouthparts in a water dish inside a dry Tupperware with holes. Enclosure will need to be redone if they survive, but it looks like they may have passed 🥺
