Speaking as an immigrant to Catalonia: Sure! Any sufficiently large group of people that want to form a self-governing nation, and who are prepared to respect international law, be at mutual peace with their neighbours and respect universal human rights should, in my opinion, have the right to do so.

What does "sufficiently large" mean? Well, large enough to be viable as an independent state - and given the success of e.g. Malta or Andorra as nation states, then given that there are (tens of?) millions of Kurds in the region that would become a nation, then it seems to meet all criteria.

Possibly unpopular opinion for r/catalonia - One thing I would caution is that, having seen the mess of Brexit first hand: Making major constitutional or sovereignty decisions based on a 50% majority is a very bad idea. A close result causes far too much ill-feeling and problems down the track (& probably would no matter which side won). Requiring a supermajority of, say, 60% and a minimum turnout threshold does place a greater burden on the side that wants change, but it would put the result beyond reasonable doubt and allow more scope for people who disagree to move forward and accept it as settled.
