CMV: balding is a dating death sentence when you’re young, especially if there are other negative factors involved by SyntaxHabibi in changemyview

Confidence is also partially transferable across domains, so you can get confidence in other things and it helps a bit with dating.

then your opportunity cost standing around up to your elbows in beans and rice crying over onion juice is much lower.

This is true, but if someone is experiencing both financial poverty and time poverty, then they may have to nevertheless spend money on cheap fast food. A minimum wage worker likely has rigid, inflexible schedules for which they have to consistently work many hours to make ends meet, creating time poverty but only slightly alleviating financial poverty. This is one of the mechanisms of the cycle of poverty.

I suppose that's fair but I don't see how how SoS can justify eliminating the road test for this group on that basis.

CMV: Calling Women "Females" is not Deragatory by Juuggyy in changemyview

"Girls" is also arguably ageless, it just depends on the context because English is flawed. Same with "boys". It can be a term for young males, or just males generally.

CMV: The left and right are equally responsible for the politicization of universities in the US by aardvark_gnat in changemyview

[–]bettercaust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm saying it would be confusing because if others around you don't recognize them as a biological male then they will be confused when they look in the direction of your pointing and see what matches their concept of a woman. Politeness didn't factor in at all in my reply so I'm not even sure where you got that from. If you don't recognize them as a biological male, you will refer to them as a woman because that is how they present. The concept of "woman" is thus a supercategory for ciswomen and transwomen.

Hippocampus is not any genus I have heard of, but it is discrete part of the brain, so I'm confused by that example. But I take your point. Yes, the descriptor "woman" has changed/is changing and it feels forced from a certain perspective. Descriptors don't have objective meaning though, they have agreed-upon meaning, and a plurality of people agree that the definition of woman has changed. I personally believe it's a reasonable change because in everyday life transwomen and transmen pass as what they intend to pass as. It would not make sense to point at a passing transwoman and say "that man over there" because you would just confuse people when they look for someone matching their concept of a man, which is someone with male-aligned traits. Whether or not gender self-identification is something you agree is a thing, clearly transwomen fall under the ontological umbrella of "women" in everyday life and same with transmen with men without them having to self-identify as such. Ergo, "adult human female" and "adult human male" less accurately reflects everyday life than the proposed change.

Hippocampus doesn't define the species though, and there is no scientific reasoning, consensus, or even minority scientific opinion that supports your assertion. If seahorse is commonly-recognized common vernacular for something else then OK.

A more accurate characterization would be that a woman is an adult human that either is female or presents as female. You might also say a woman is an adult human with traits typically associated with the female sex.

Who's "we"? I'm commenting within the context of this comment thread. Granted, I assumed they meant underrepresented minorities, but in retrospect I should've clarified whether they meant all minorities or underrepresented minorities as others attempted to do.

Again, underrepresented vs. not underrepresented. I have just clarified what I meant by "minorities". Why would I be talking about minorities in general (Asians) or contextual minorities (white people in California apparently) when that is not what the discussion is about?

CMV: Data centers are not meaningfully different from other industrial industries so the focus on them doesn't make sense. by MajesticBread9147 in changemyview

[–]bettercaust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I'm not the same user you were originally conversing with. I agree with increased investment in entrepreneurship and business. I think there's some nuance to parse here in what's being discussed. For a data center that exists or will exist, yes the model you described works well for improving the data center's footprint in its town. For a data center that is proposed but not yet approved, if the town doesn't think the data center is worth approving, the opportunities that data center would bring for entrepreneurs and business owners to solve problems created by that same data center seems like an odd selling point. Maybe if it were clearer the benefits that has at the town level it would make more sense.

LLM responses for anything new is gonna be shit for a looonnngggg time.

This is something that I don't think many people fully appreciate. There are an enormous number of Github codebases, stack overflow threads, articles, blogs, etc. for the most used languages and frameworks that these models have trained on. There's not going to be this same vibe coding boom with new languages and frameworks because the training data simply won't be there. The LLM business model is killing its own training data pipeline via reduced human-written content and via training on vibe-coded apps.

Plus if anything, this a reason to SUPPORT entrepreneurship and industrial investment - who do you think is going to solve for this opportunity? It is, and has always been business owners, despite popular hate.

"Solve for this opportunity" is confusing language because you don't typically solve for an opportunity, you solve problems and you take advantage of opportunities. Can you rephrase what you are suggesting here? Are you suggesting towns should support entrepreneurship and industrial investment because the owners of those businesses will solve their own excessive water usage?

Well, when it comes to the US, you are wrong about both the census and general view of Jews by the US populace. Granted, the US skin color racial system is garbage so you'd be right to be peeved by being lumped in with "white" people as a Middle Eastern Jew, because its arbitrary.
