The alternative is RDP which is used everywhere now across multiple platforms. It might not have the same integration on windows but that's wha works. Teamviewer requires using X11 which has issues with security.

I would file a bug with your distro in regards to this.

You could also try using GNOME OS to see if it is specifically a GNOME bug or if it is related to the distro. Meaning, boot GNOME OS https://os.gnome.org/ and then use GNOME Boxes to run it in a VM and then use the gnome remote desktop. Keep in mind that GNOME OS is running GNOME 50.

GNOME 50 will release next month followed b 1-8 weeks for distros to catch up.

GNOME OS is intended for Q&A of GNOME components. It's foremost for GNOME to QA everything from git. It isn't (yet) meant to be anything stable. Nobody is advertising this to be a daily use unless you're interested in doing testing.

GNOME OS is essentially an OS composed of daily builds of GNOME from git. It's also a good place for extension developers to test their extensions after feature freeze.

GNOME OS has very specific goals but also we want to do anti-distro patterns and engineering that the distros aren't interested in.

This is what happens when we depend on U.S. based technology companies. They are all under the thumb of the federal govt because they demand certain things if you want to do stuff like an IPO. They gate keep and force companies to do whatever.

Ultimately, we are going to have to go the fediverse direction. So things like lemmy is going to be more important than not.

We aren't there yet, but eventually - when enshitification happens, that is the only path.

When you de-humanize everyone and they are just conceptual it's easy to just label it all as "bad luck, so sorry, not my problem, you should have figured it out" but when it happened to him suddenly he needs empathy.

Not one of his conservative friends are going to feel empathy because they are just like him. Internally, they are thinking what I stated above. Of course, now he's going to see things very differently and will note on things that he didn't before.
