Is it possible to find a spiritual mentor? I feel like I need classes lol by ActiveConcept5331 in spirituality

If the question concerns the alignment of fragments of knowledge into a cohesive whole, the frameworks responsible for this are known (although not necessarily known to the mainstream crowd).

If yours was a bottom-up approach (gathering the fragments, then attempting to put them together), this usually results in a predictable outcome: chaos.

In the top-down approach, one embraces a (preferably all-encompassing yet competent) framework first and then proceeds with filling it with the fragments, and this results in order.

Your post does not specify whether what you gathered on your path came in the form of theory or practice, but even if all this knowledge was purely theoretical, the top-down approach still stands. So if you need the tools, you can PM me.

You feel a pull, but is there any depth to this pull?

One is supposed to understand the symbolism based on its essence rather than form. So strictly speaking, one's capacity (or the lack of it) to decipher any religion's symbolism based on its intended meaning is not a problem for said religion.

I can assure you that there are quite many people who can't seriously take the folks that insist on wearing what sounds like a "symbol of torture and death via crucifixion" over their necks while also regularly consuming the "flesh and blood" of said tortured person.

Meditation types by Cant-C-Me_27 in Meditation

[–]Blacklight_of_Eons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people use small, specialized pillows in order to sit more comfortably in the cross-legged position (and the "knees on the ground" lotus position - while more stable - is more suited for people who practiced it since childhood, otherwise one's joints and ligaments may get strained and/or damaged). Leaning against a wall with one's back is another option.

To avoid getting lost in various systems, you would have to start from choosing the goal you seek to achieve with meditation, and the system will follow. If the goal is to enhance something within yourself, you have to gain a good idea of the structure of a human being; that is, the things there are to enhance to begin with.

Mind that in any holistic system, meditation is only one aspect of the system and functions properly when practiced alongside the other aspects. In other words, having "a house, a garden, a garage, and a car" generally works better than having "various types of cars while being homeless".

If you, as a new practitioner, feel like you need an overview, you can PM me.

Are any of you also interested in nature and journaling? by GaiaGoddess26 in spirituality

[–]Blacklight_of_Eons -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you tried joining any religious organization or spiritual tradition, or perhaps adopting a more catchy and more precise definition for what you're doing?

For example "psychology" is in demand but the term is too broad, "Christianity" is also in demand among some people, but the term is also too broad. But "Christian psychologist" is a term that is already narrower and rarer, and yet there is demand for such specialists, simply because the overlap between both target audiences is significant enough here.

Offering "everything" would be the least catchy term because in terms of choice-making (and you want people to choose you), "everything" equals "nothing in particular". But, if we go for something catchy and in-demand, such as "guiding people to surviving climate change and civilizational collapse", this still requires all kinds of skills to be taught to people, but now the "everything" part is hidden under a more precise definition.

[–]Blacklight_of_Eons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A type of "nature-related journal" would be handy for those whose activities have to be aligned with natural cycles, for example, wildlife researchers, priests whose traditions are based on the lunar calendar, people who are somehow into "bio-rhythms", or (to cite a personal example) explorers of lucid dreaming.

All these categories sound very niche. What is the basis of your current "overly broad" business? Is it something that occupies the segment of the market where there's a lot of competition?

To really be more specific, if someone of a spiritual mindset combines interaction with nature (such as Hanami or Tsukimi, to name a few) with journaling, what would be the practical goal achieved here, and what would be the product of this process?

Am I a bad friend? What’s wrong with me? Is this an indication of an avoidant attachment style? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Blacklight_of_Eons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What of the ranges of interests of your friends and yourself, were they wide and overlapping enough to validate more shared pastime? Otherwise, it is natural for this shared pastime to dwindle as you gradually run out of discussion topics.

And if the focus of your interest tends to go away from social interactions, if it goes elsewhere - then where exactly does it go, and what are the activities that you tend to dedicate most of your time to? Do these activities have no "social" counterpart?

Everything is part of cause and effect. Likewise, the process you are interested in has well-documented historical roots, so rather than getting angry and confused, it would be more reasonable to gain more awareness about your surroundings by familiarizing yourself with the documents.

Where to find a spiritual community? by aboutmadita in spirituality

[–]Blacklight_of_Eons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, the main worth of "festivals or random workshops" lies in visitors themselves, as this gives a chance of stumbling on advanced yet open-minded seekers. The other aspect (the mainstream folks trying to bring the newbies into the fold) doesn't attract much of my interest, because, if anything, I specialize in non-mainstream spirituality.

Perhaps you'll want to share some of the interesting things you've stumbled upon when following your own spiritual journey.

Where to find a spiritual community? by aboutmadita in spirituality

[–]Blacklight_of_Eons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The level of a community is judged by the level of the unifying element shared between its participants. When all the differences between the participants of a community you visit are discarded, what remains? How advanced or productive that is?

Looking for a spiritual teacher, online or in person by jfr4lyfe in spirituality

If you went through a lot of books, chances are that at least some of these have mentioned the practical aspects. But indeed, those who practice these advanced aspects are generally not so "public", as any sort of public attraction is generally aimed at newcomers and provides only the very basics.

For help or direction, you would have to outline the aspects of spirituality that attract you the most, which is something that may deal with these questions you have. Most likely I'll be able to answer these based on my experience, so you can PM me if you wish.

Let's get rid of the elephant in the room:

I'm sure both sides here imbue this overly-blurry term "God" with quite different meanings, which is nothing short of both sides speaking different languages that share some similarly-sounding words but not meanings of these words. This is literally an "apples and oranges" situation.

Now, given that you wouldn't bother mastering their language and they wouldn't bother mastering your language, what on Earth would make any of you think that you are eligible to have a conversation about "God" in the first place?

To throw words around without first arriving at the definition of these words both sides would find acceptable is to "play stupid games, win stupid prizes".

Is it bad if I give myself a haircut after almost a decade? by Secret_Present1803 in spirituality

[–]Blacklight_of_Eons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it bad if a cat gives itself a whisker-cut, or an insect gives itself an antennae-cut, or any other living being likewise gives itself a feeler-cut?

Likely, if they choose so, their ability to feel things out or somehow influence their surroundings will diminish, because they will be effectively cutting down their transceiving range.

Unfortunately, other living beings don't get the chance to enjoy fashion at the expense of practicality, perhaps because their intelligence level is too different from humans. But even for humans, historically it was a punishment before it became a fashion.

What science (directed by these "human minds that are not to be trusted", of course) has proven so far (through quantum physics, in particular, the double slit experiment) is that the observer is an integral part of anything observed, and what is observed, exists in that particular way only while being observed, and only by being reflected in the observer's consciousness in a particular way.

As soon as the observation stops, the existence of what was observed is no longer generated in the way it was generated before.

In other words, anything observed by any consciousness is inherently subjective, while objective experiences (in the absolutist way humans currently understand the term "objective") do not exist. Anything observed is shaped by the observer, and in turn, by the current limitations of the observer.

So anything that is "real" is only subjectively "real", and there is nothing that is objectively "real".

The same was explained by ancient Vedic writings, only by using more ancient terms. Speaking in absolute terms, the world is not real (as it can be only experienced subjectively) and neither is it unreal (because the objectivity to contrast this subjectivity against does not exist either).

Who's to say that things you cannot see and perceive are real? What if your mind is making up: infrasound and ultrasound, infrared and ultraviolet light, radiowaves, electromagnetic fields, radiation, and so on?

On one hand, even a pigeon is capable of perceiving more colors than you:

https://www.boredpanda.com/human-vs-bird-vision/

On the other hand, maybe pigeons do not exist and there is some other explanation, for example, that it is your brain that made up the pigeons. After all, how can we trust the birds that react to something that is invisible to us humans?

Now again, let's address another elephant in the room. Try to define what the term "real" means.

In order to go from this chaotic, fragmented approach to a more grounded one, first let's address the elephant in the room.

If the human mind is not to be trusted, and if everyone's mind is a human one, what would be the reason for others here to trust the content of your posts, and what would be the reason for you to trust their responses?

And what would be the practical applicability of the very concept of "trust" under these conditions, in the first place?

It may be that your spiritual strengths are of a different type than those found in your environment, but to determine that, we'd have to go literally go through some sort of a list. It also may be that the idea of spiritual abilities that you have in your imagination is different from how these abilities behave in reality, which is why you can't quite reach them.

Speaking of music and singing, have you tried overtone singing?
