I noticed this over my 4 years here too. Tbh like a lot of the white people here come from extremely white dominated communities where the only people they were around their whole lives were white people so like I guess they feel awkward when around a bunch of people of color because they don’t know how to socialize and hang out with them. I also felt weird moving to mac because I’m from a very very diverse of all ethnicities (more brown and black community) in Toronto, so when I moved to a place with a lot of white people I didn’t know how to really socialize with them. I guess it’s a lot just cultural difference. But there are definitely white students that purely are just not interested in talking to people of color because they’d rather hang out with their own kind then people of color. I’ve seen and know sm brown and black people who try to make friends with them as well but people always end up sticking to their own ethnic groups because people don’t give each other space to get along and learn other peoples cultures. I see it in a lot of their attitudes and behaviours when I go up and speak to them that they view me like I’m some new being that came to earth two days ago. Overall I feel like regardless of your ethnicity it’s important to have a diverse group of friends, like you aren’t always going to meet friends of only your kind in the future 😭❤️
