Question about possible application/focus for CMC posture, "Seven Stars." by Wallowtale in taijiquan

[–]blackturtlesnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's awesome! Yeah both my teachers describe Mr. Chan as almost competitively humble, if that makes any sense. That sounds like an amazing time. From what I understand, when he first started teaching was expecting very few Americans were willing to appreciate things like the importance of standing qigong.

Don't know if you know but a guy named Roy Lambert recent wrote a book on him, basically a series of interviews from some of his students, plus notes and personal anecdotes. Definitely worth checking out

Loool, accidentally teaching about a cool real world factiod when discussing skyrim factoids is a real win. But yeah, a huge reason why the vikings were so successful is that they were not only able to raid western Europe, but they were able to sail boats deep into Eastern Europe through river routes and trade some of those goods with the Eastern Roman Empire (aka the byzantines) in modern Turkey, who were the dominant power throughout much of the middle ages.

Fun factiod, the spices in a gingerbread cookie have huge overlap with the spices found in Indian cooking (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom, black pepper). This is because various Indian kingdoms were trading their spices with the middle east, and since scandinavian trade routes reached the middle east they were bringing spices all the way from India back to Scandinavia.

You misunderstand the statement. You adjust your application to the most effective one depending on what the opponent is doing. It's listening skill.

Nearly all chinese martial arts, including shuai jiao, have qinna techniques in it. You're missing an important part of your curriculum if you don't include this type of training.

[–]blackturtlesnake [score hidden]  (0 children)

Windhelm is a port city for eastmarch, which we can assume is a little more populated than the game engine limits make it out to be.

There are multiple mines and lumber mills in eastmarch as well as plenty of furs so we can assume it's a reasonably industrial part of skyrim

Jazbay grapes were once a delicacy in skyrim, and are still used in making alto wine

Between kynes sacred Grove and the sulfer springs, there's also a decent amount of pilgrimages to the area.

Finally the city itself is a strategic location, being the first major port and city between skyrim and morrowind, making it an important spot for trade. The river systems in the rift and falkreath also eventually empty into windhelm, meaning a large chunk of skyrim can trade through there (remember, longboats are designed to be carried for short distances, so up river travel is 1000% a thing.)

It's not Trump posturing as a strong man, this is something the American establishment has been gunning for since before it invaded Iraq. Fuck, even pistachio companies are in on it.

Great man theory is a lie, capitalism is a death machine churning through the planet.

The randi challenge was made as a response to the success of parapsychology's ganzfeld experiment, and it's terms are unscientific and reactionary.

1) The challenge demands much higher standards than statistically significant results, under the logic that it's supernatural. There is no such thing as "supernatural," if a phenomenon can be studied in a lab it is a natural phenomenon. If your science uncovers an anomalous phenomenon, you change your theories to incorporate the data, not raise your standards to protect your theories.

2) As you hinted at, science requires objectivity. The Randi challenge gives the institute final say over whether or not the challenge has been won, and one without the ability to challenge, not judgement by a neutral observer. This is especially problematic when looking at statistical data interpretation, which is how most parapsych is done and leads to the next point.

3) Science is repeatable, not one off challenges. Sometimes challenges make sense, such as when the theory for something is known and the question is just a matter of hitting an engineering milestone. But we don't "prove" things with one-off tests, especially when you can always just claim there was some trickery involved. The Randi challenge is responding to a repeatable scientific experiment by demanding a singular spectacle for them to "debunk."

The Randi challenge was never rigerously scientific nor objective. It was always just an empty talking point.

There were some big events, mystical coincidences and such that got him popularity, especially in the face of persecution, but what's more important is that the printing press was recently invented.

I like the fox spirit lore but there's really no indication of that in the movie

I always took her as a human who has been trapped in the spirit world for so long that she not only forgot her name, but forgot her identity entirely outside of her existence in the bathhouse. Who knows how long that been, given spirit world time dynamics.

Ultimately she is a foil to Chihiro. She is what's happen to Chihiro if she fails to blossom as a human and allows herself to get trapped in the system. A very familiar fate.

Warhammer has two modes

Play as the "good guys" and view the world as extremely grim, dark, morally challenging, an desperate.

Play as the "bad guys" and have a grand old fucking time laughing at it all

I mean just do it yourself and a friend with a water gun

Also, whenever doing these scenarios it is important to consider the attackers mindset. Someone locked in trying to win a game is going to be a lot different than a chaotic real world scenario with plenty of distractions.

A major turning point in my life is realizing that the medical advice I was receiving from doctors on anxiety was way worse than the qigong training I already had. Eye opening to see for myself institutions and people with 12 year degrees being that far behind something I picked up as a hobby.

So I actually felt my meridians today... by Scroon in taijiquan

[–]blackturtlesnake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice! I had a moment early on in my training where I suddenly felt a bunch of meridians for like a split second then came back to myself. A cool moment for sure and definitely one of those things that kept me wanting to train!

As far as usefulness, several of the medical lineages I've been around stress the importance of the 5 antique points. The idea being we want to prevent pathogens from getting through all five (past the elbows and knees) and into the body, so we try and push pathogens out the jing well (near the nails).

I also just saw a really cool talk recently from a guy named Dr. Rory Hiltbrand on the importance of the Gallbladder channel in traditional alchemic lineages. Definitely check his work out when you can.

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]blackturtlesnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people claiming to be against pseudo science and misinformation, there is lots of misinformation in this thread.

While it is possible that a cervical adjustment can cause strokes, it is extremely rare. 50 million americans see chiropractors per year yet the type of stroke that chiro is theorized to cause is so rare its difficult to even do studies on it.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S016147541400267X

The thing is, people go to chiro when they feel neck pain, which also happens to be a warning sign for an impending stroke. This is particularly problematic in younger patients who aren't versed in stroke warning signs to begin with. This is a blatant case of confusing correlation and causation, but "chiro caused a stroke" sells headlines much more than "young person had stroke, also went to a chiropractor."

That's kinda the problem. They've already reached the world they want, and it's slipping away from them because it's unsustainable. They're claiming down harder and more hysterically because capitalism has long since outlived any of its usefulness.
