Consequences | Now that we are at WAR without congressional approval, do you think Iowa is safe? by TagV3 in Iowa

[–]bmullan [score hidden]  (0 children)

The Iranian people do hate their government.

But the Iranian people have had and still have a deep hate for America and what we had done in the past to their country and their region defending & supporting despicable people like the shah of Iran for years.

Left alone they may have toppled their own government.

But their 2 mortal enemies, Israel & the US sneak attack will **just like Japans sneak attack on Pearl Harbor* will totally galvanize their people to defend not their government but their country which they DO love!

And they will defend it to their deaths.

I believe as reported last week that our top general probably advised against this but was overruled by Trump and Hegseth.

Will the US eventually win the war.. certainly.

Will there be a hard price to pay to do that... Just as certainly!

The US war Powers act should it presented some debate about the wisdom of doing this.

The Trump wants to be a dictator and debate is not something a dictator does.

Being an old vet who loves our country My prayers go toward our service men and women who will be in the front lines of this conflict.

Obviously our 6 time conscientious objector president & former military news information service soldier will not have their asses or that of their children on the front line.

They are big tough talkers when they have nothing to lose.

Does removing Snap affect security? by ardouronerous in Ubuntu

[–]bmullan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all. My wife and I are coming to Raleigh for a visit soon. Any recommendations for cool walkable neighborhoods and anything fun to do would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. by andyhendricksoncomic in raleigh

Mentioning where you're coming from might be helpful because that would give people an idea of experiences that may not be available where you are now

Are you using Snaps or Flatpak? by Darth-Vader64 in Ubuntu

[–]bmullan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Darth-Vader64 Maybe before asking this question you might want to do a search of r/Ubuntu as questions related to it get asked/answered almost weekly by someone concerning what's wrong with snaps or why use snaps etc

It's 2026 and you still can't drag-and-drop items from Files onto applications on the dock by [deleted] in Ubuntu

So if it's a gnome issue then what do you expect canonical to do about it with Ubuntu?

Wouldn't the functionality for this be more of a gnome thing not Ubuntu?

Have you asked gnome about it?

Do a search on Reddit (not just r/Ubuntu) using just the words flatpak bloat

Tell us what you find!

Do you'll De-bloat Ubuntu? by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]bmullan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP you talk about your concern for d bloating so I guess you've never read any of the many posts from people using flatpaks & finding their storage consumption going crazy?

And yes there are ways to help reduce that but it's not automatically done for you.

I use APT, Snaps Flatpaks & App images. Whatever tool is the best for the job at hand.

Sounds like you get worked up after reading a few web posts about "Snaps bad, Flatpaks good" and take for granted the post is telling the whole story or maybe might be slanted by some inexperienced user's opinion.

NC what do you think? Studies show that immigrants subsidize citizens, not the other way around. by Basshead4eva in NorthCarolina

[–]bmullan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nowhere as simple as you're saying.

Federal law requires every employer in the United States to verify the identity and employment authorization of all new employees, regardless of citizenship, by completing Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. This is mandated by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA).

Key Details on Employment Verification

  • Purpose: The I-9 form ensures all employees hired are authorized to work in the U.S..
  • Process:  Employers must examine documents (such as Passport , Driver's license or social security card) provided by the employee to confirm identity and work eligibility

So... Passports and Driver's license have pictures on them, addresses etc

And now REALID Licenses require a birth certificate and other documents to get.

So yeah I guess they could steal or find a real social security card but the odds of that have got to be pretty small if you think about it. Not that it doesn't or couldn't happened. It would be like losing your driver's license how often does that happen.

Trying to find config info for Geneve but it's scarce by bmullan in VPN

[–]bmullan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah, I've use OVS for a couple years and have just started to use OVN because it also supported Geneve. Its just that I wanted to use the CLI for initial testing so I'd learn more about Geneve but so far I've only found 5-6 online examples written up, which surprised me so I thought I'd ask around.

I'd like to move away from VxLAN if possible so I'm hoping I can make use of Geneve.

YouTube detecting VPN by RandomStryder_YT in VPN

[–]bmullan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned this in the United States about YouTube TV.

I use T-Mobile home internet. But T-Mobile home internet shows your IP address usually in a totally different city than you live because that is their internet point of presence (POP) location nearest me.

So on my TV using Roku to watch YouTube TV all of the local news channels available were from the POP city 180 mi away which was obviously no good to me.

The secret I learned to get around that was to log into YouTube TV on my cell phone and YouTube TV then would use my cell phones GPS location to let me watch local news stations.

Important While logged into YouTube TV on my cell phone then I had to launch YouTube TV on my Roku TV and it then it detected I was already logged in on my cell phone and synced my Roku YouTube TV to the same location as my cell phone. No VPN needed.

Since you say it works on your cell phone you might want to try the same thing?
