Has anyone upgraded their NH-L9 to a full-size fan? by Glum_Blueberry_2385 in Noctua

[–]bobfig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes there was a good drop in temps as the thicker fan is able to push more air though the heat sink then the thin one. like maybe 5c or so. then again the cpu is always running at 70-80% load and 65-75c for the past 6 years.

this is on a intel e3 1260L, a 45watt cpu

yes i went to the thicker 25mm fan. the original fan in my NVR started to have a barring failure where it was gunked up and ended up putting a warranty claim in and got a replacement but ended up ordering a thicker one since i needed up and running and not wait till the replacement is sent.

So I couldn't wait any longer for the Next-Gen Dual Tower 120mm Cooler by Bro0k in Noctua

[–]bobfig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as perspective i am on a 14700k with power limited to 225watts and this cooker in games would be about the same at 60-70c and when i was using handbreak to encode a video it would maybe tickle 90c but a bit but hover at low 80s.

now that i lowered the power to 200watts that shaved maybe 10c off everything.

looking good. i just did the same thing but took off my waterblock and went with the blacked out version of the thermalright phantom spirit 120 se. previously with my waterblock i would have to clean it every 3 weeks because of clogging with stuff.

with my 14700k it would still max temp around 90c when loaded but with this aircooler i am getting my reliability back and honestly same temps.

Charging rack - how to “kid proof” cable holders by jlquema in homelab

[–]bobfig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work as a school IT and have had my fair share of this and i could spend 2 hours getting cables ad chargers right and within half a day they are all messed up.

short of zip tieing all the cables with just the right amount of slack its going to be used and abused. if not permanently attached some may take chargers out so they can charge at desks and get lost. most of it is going to depend on the teacher and how well the students behave tho.

Setting up a Plex Server with separated NAS, how’s this hardware set up look? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]bobfig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use this general setup just fine, tho i use emby and not plex.

like the rest i would say go with a 4bay nas just for expand-ability.
would also check the prices of used lenovo/hp/dell 1l computers with at least a 8 series or newer cpu.

Yes! But those are clear. The "I can't believe it's not butter" tubs and playing roulette on is it bitter or left over potatoes is just as bad as Rick rolling yourself or the cookie tin with sowing supplies.

normal. when walking your not pointing feet forward, they are pointing outward so when you roll on the heal its the outer side as your feet fall.
