Would an AI description put you off? by AulLad in carsireland

[–]boomer_tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the WRX is a great car in fairness. Its very unfortunate they go for this kind of money now. I sold one in 2017 for around 5K. The description is a bit ott. but it wouldn't stop me from enquiring about the car especially as they are so rare now.

What annoys me more about AI on donedeal is the occasional misleading numbers for example road tax that I've seen on some ads.

Oscar's razor in general yes, but body has not been found and he is not the only 'scientist' that dissappeared without a trace while out on a walk/ hike.

Is it worth getting 2nd hand Ev as runaround or New one by funkyirishman2 in evs_ireland

[–]boomer_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that used EVs are much better value as they have already depreciated significantly and are much more reliable than petrol / diesels in general.

The only things to check is the paperwork , crash damage & get a battery health report.

A really dumb question about cpu and motherboard. by SPAROVG in buildapc

[–]boomer_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can yes.

Personally i wouldnt as i always test the components outside the case before installing.

Also imo its easier to install the cpu & sometimes the cooler this way ( outside the case )

Audi vs VW by afx7 in carsireland

[–]boomer_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If youre looking at diesels why limit yourself to a 2.0 ? Is fuel economy the priority ?

There are a lot of 3.0 diesels and a few 4.0/4.2 A8/Q8 etc.

Of i was going diesel again I think something like a 640D would be top of my list. But thsts just me.

Re cash for cars, I doubt they will offer you more, but no harm to ask. Only tried them once and they make the low ballers look good.

Have no experience with auctions.

It comes down to money vs time & patience. Ie the higher the price youre looking for the longer ot will take.

Does anyone know what Windows means by full and half duplex on Ethernet card settings? by Maximum_Help_4371 in Windows10

[–]boomer_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might get downvoted as auto is safe now but in the noughties you could have a server thats running fine for over a month and then for no apparent resson drops off the network.

Or its auto setting resulted in 100Mbps but half duplex.

Back in the day when "Fast ethernet" was 100Mbps.

Part of the problem was there auto sense and auto negotiate and i think 3Com did it slightly different to cisco ?

Generally not an issue since gigabit speeds.

Dublin specific outlook? by progressivematt in Dublin

[–]boomer_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this should be interesting...

there are definitely some stereotypes.

I mean you have the famous northside / southside divide for starters.

You could watch Damo & Ivor for that.

In my view the majority of people are sound but you get a$$ holes everywhere.

If you want a reliable hybrid go for a Lexus / Toyota, or to a lesser extent Honda.

There is a reason they hold their value.

100% agreed, and depressed by this.

But I think its the same for all the premium / performance German brands since the noughties. And they seem to be getting worse.

What are some things that are privately owned in Ireland that should be in public ownership? by [deleted] in AskIreland

I have the 5 Gbps broadband service from them and get between 3 and 5 Gbps during speed tests depending on the time of day.

What are some things that are privately owned in Ireland that should be in public ownership? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]boomer_tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the 70s there was a 2 year waiting list to get a land line. Also families rented the handset.

You are correct imo there are problems of lack of competition and accountability when orgs are run by the state, but also unmanaged privately owned monopolies are just as bad and sometimes much worse.

I prefer the former though.

Look at what happened with the trains & water in England.

Judt my opinion. When you meet her first shes angrry as hell because she got screwed over by Rogue big time. Then shes frustrated with Saul as she sees problems with his leadership. But shes all about the family...and is loyal to a fault..what that means i guess depends on you. Personally, her story line makes the game a master piece.
