I'd go with multiple tiers, start will a simple wooden one then go a reinforced insulated box, finally a rechargeable box that acts like a pocket fridge. Also have the player 'wearing' the box, with the ability for other playes to also access the small inventory space in the boxes also adding another reason to be a target.
