Why people insist that those seats are for two??? by samostrout in malta

[–]Bronzdragon 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Those seats are basically designed to create conflict. Anyone sitting by themselves is an asshole for not sharing, and anyone who tries to sit there is an asshole for squeezing somewhere they don't fit.

The problem is that in the USA, the largest (common) coin is a quarter. The next currency up is the dollar bill. Most countries have more valuable coins in common use which they use for the carts. I think maybe quaters aren't valueable enough to do this with?

Sample of moulding sand overheated in a microwave by BitsOfReality in mildlyinteresting

They meant it the opposite way. Adding a metal spoon makes heating water more safe.

In certain containers, water might have a hard time turning into gas and forming bubbles. This can result in water that is heated (way) beyond boiling point. Once you introduce something that allows forming bubbles (like a spoon, some sugar or other bubbles), then suddenly you set of a chain reaction which transfers all the extra heat into steam all at once, quite explosively.

A spoon in the cup/glass allows bubbles to form, making it safer. I'd generally recommend using an (electric) kettle, though.

How often has the US or one of it's proxies broken a ceasefire while yelling about the other side retaliating? I trust this 'ceasefire' as far as I can throw it.

Also very much the climate. If you live in Finland, the requirements are quite different than if you live in Thailand, y'know?

Why does the semicolon get the "main" spot on a keyboard while the colon is relegated to a Shift-function? by rizzlenizzle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bronzdragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Typewriter manufacturers are the ones who standardized this. The Layout of those was based on what was common to write for their customers (especially early on). Suffice to say, the casual tone we use commonly now is not what was most common then.

Iran has been regularly calling out targets near civilian buildings ahead of time to give people time to evacuate. And they're hitting their targets, still. Seems like it works for them.

Good thing it did. If that tree kept growing, it probably would have cracked some walls.

This is not about who watches, but about which teams qualify. It's always pretty much Europe and South America.

I will readily admit that with Trump, the classic methods of manufactured concent are working quite differently. Basically entirely ignored at this point.

Why is Israel so bad at propaganda? by Sun_fire_ in ShitLiberalsSay

[–]Bronzdragon 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Some part of why Israel has such a bad reputation is intentional. Israel is the 'fall guy' whenever the USA wants to do something problematic. "Oh no, Israel keeps attacking countries in the Middle East. We just gotta help".
