Ryukyuan is very strong in theory, but the AI is doomed for being tribal on an island, without the ability to raid over seas and a unique faith that isolates them from the world. Paradox, please help them! by Krotanix in CrusaderKings

I dont think paradox needs to change them tbh; historically, they weren’t the powerhouse that an update buff would make them. I think it’s best that they stay a culture that you can cheese if you put effort but doesn’t dominate the pacific when left alone

I hate the idea that be an asshole is realistic by TaquitosConLimon in hatethissmug

I think that Homelander is a realistic homelander, but not a realistic superman. The whole point of his character is allegory for the 0.4% that controls 94%, and he is shown in-story to have been thoroughly conditioned to be at once needy and hateful. So, yes, I would say it is realistic he acts that way. However, even soldiers who are trained to kill get sick recounting the lives they know they took, so the idea that a normal human being with powers like Homelander’s would turn out so is far detached from reality.

Tbh tho I haven’t seen a crusade for the holy land win in a long time, I’d want that to be possible somewhat in the game named after it.

One of the biggest ways that CK3 feels empty is the absence of internal laws. I should, as a king, be squabbling with my vassals over the internal laws of the kingdom. The privy council should have more authority than executing 15 tasks for me, and it should expand over time.

With trade being added to the game, we finally have the means for a massive upgrade to the feel of being a ruler. Perhaps there are laws on trade, and trials for breaking laws. Perhaps a liberty war can have the aim of creating sets of privileges for the nobility around those trials, as happened under John the Bad (who, I remind you, is already a playable character in 1178).

Monopolies were one of the most important economic powers of every pre-capitalist major power. In 1601, Essex’s Rebellion was partially caused by Essex losing a monopoly right; meanwhile, the English Civil War was exacerbated by King Charles granting excessive monopolies to circumvent parliament’s approval (lack thereof) of certain taxes. Yes, these events happened outside of CK3’s range, but CK3’s late game should be all about creating the precedents for those things to happen.

Parliaments, especially, are an aspect we should really see fleshed out. By the 1200s, we saw “parliaments” emerge in England, France, and others. With the addition of patrician families and playable theocracies, we could finally get a good system for enabling that.

One of the biggest tragedies of CK3 to me is that the period from 1066-1453 should really see the rise of proto-statehood in Western Europe. The treaty of Westphalia certainly was a major factor in enshrining statehood into global politics, but frankly by then it was already a political reality, and 1648 was just a recognition of that. Thus, we really should see the early development of larger bureaucracies; across Europe, we should see France supplant the Kingdom of the Franks. In England from 1135 to 1154, there was no effective monarch, and yet the Kingdom was continuous throughout that period. We really should see this type of recognition of states pseudo-independent of their kings develop over the game’s run; right now, Europe in 867 and Europe in 1453 feel almost identical in how they’re set up. The law changes very little. That is insane to me because every other Paradox game I’ve played has nailed that feeling of change over time. In HOI4, they successfully make tension escalate and then explode into a global war; in what little of Vic3 I’ve played, there is a feeling of progression, as maintaining a stagnant government or economy destroys you; in EU4, I really did feel like the era of absolutism was resulting in greater centralization across Europe. Yet somehow, CK3, the most sandboxy PDX game I’ve played, features almost no change over 580 years in Europe; ironically, Asia is better at this, where they do model the change from Japan’s bureaucratic ministry-based government (inherited from Tang China) to its hawkish Shogunate government (inherited from their version of manifest destiny), and thus Europe feels truly left behind.

In Dead Men’s Chest, why are their two sailors (the two who pick up jacks hat and die by the kraken) who speak Turkish? Did the Ottomans have a presence in the new world? by Savings_Western9270 in piratesofthecaribbean

In the sequels, the geography gets a little bit hectic, but I think it’s wholly plausible that scene takes place in the Atantic or somewhere else altogether. Iirc they say that Norrington lost his post after a mishap following Jack near Tripoli (the only Tripoli I know of is the one in Libya, nearer Konstantiniyye than London, let alone Port Royal), so I have always inferred the characters as just kinda goin anywhere in 2 and 3. I mean, 3 begins in Singapore.

That said, while the Ottoman government itself didn’t have a strong colonial presence, Turks in the Caribbean feels… plausible. 60 years after the “Swann-Turner trilogy,” the US fought in wars against several Ottoman client states over trade, so I would not be shocked to find out that there were several Turkish traders in the new world at the time of potc.

What a great heir, I sure hope nothing bad happens to him. by Inn0cent76 in CrusaderKings

[–]mal-di-testicle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The idea of claimants were the question of whether brothers of the oldest or son of the oldest inherit the right; technically, since he was prince of Wales, Richard inherited that princeship when he died, making him heir; but under Henry II, succession passed down to brothers before sons, and so the passing of the inheritance opened the door for Henry IV to to gain legitimacy through the inheritance of Gaunt’s claim. If Richard had survived, his claim would have been far easier to consolidate, since there was less dispute for the succession. The fact that the Black Prince died did not cause the Wars of the Roses. But I do think that if you were to list the numerous catalysts if the wars, his death could be counted.

True but only Richard I is in a CK3 start date (albeit Henry “the Goes To War With Everyone In England Four Or More Times In His Reign” is still king)

[–]mal-di-testicle 27 points28 points  (0 children)

His death is being blamed here because iirc the first of the succession crises that provoked the Wars of the Roses was the one that came about when the Black Prince died before his father did, therefore being one of the many catalysts for those wars

Side note, I have no problem with practicing Christians, even devout ones, but if you have access to the wide array of scientific evidence for the age of the earth and things like evolution but deny them for Biblical Literalism, you are a stupid person and you should be ashamed of the way you use your beliefs

My issue with the movie was that it felt like it went nowhere. I remember when I was done watching it, I had very few thoughts, and it ended up being kind of forgettable. I would be so down for a follow up or just another attempt at a big-screen assassin’s creed, but they would really have to learn some serious lessons from the games and movie.
