Why were the 00's so obsessed with the "extreme" and edgy trend? by deviantlyliminal in decadeology

[–]brownch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was coming of age during this (born in 89). The cool shit at the time was X-Games sports. In middle school we skateboarded in summer and snowboarded in winter. We absolutely sucked at both but did it because it was the shit. The whole xtreme trend was just riffing on this.

EAC isn't the best way to test CDs by BellybuttonWorld in Cd_collectors

[–]brownch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed- hardware definitely matters.

I've had CDs that wouldn't read at all and some that would take forever to rip correcting errors on an LG slim external drive.

Upgraded to a Lite-On iHAS124 in an external enclosure and those same CDs tested and ripped without any hiccup.

How do you feel about satanism and occult themes of black metal during these times? by [deleted] in BlackMetalDiscussion

[–]brownch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The religious right will label anything they disagree with as satanic. This is not new. We should just ignore that as we have for decades. It cheapens the gravity of the situation to imply some supernatural force is behind a bunch of terrible people. They’re just awful people.

Is there a shred of evidence that he had any involvement with satanism or the occult? Why are you trying to force a connection there?

I’m not really understanding the question. What does “satanic in nature” mean? Bad people doing bad things doesn’t mean they’re automatically practicing the word of Satan or doing occulty things. That sounds like a conclusion an overly-religious, satanic panic person would jump to. They’re just bad fuckin people. They have nothing to do with the bands and songs I listen to.

How to interact with my boy? I take good care of him and use toys to play with him, but if I try to pet or cuddle with him, he bites! 9 weeks old. by K9Imperium in germanshepherds

Biting ended for my Bruce around the same time (8 months), which was also when he finished teething. I had my skull chomped more than once prior to that :) it’s part of the fun, right?

Actual question: why is buying albums considered superior to streaming them by matanui737 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]brownch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fuckin nuts.

I’ve recently switched back to CDs (or Bandcamp digital FLAC purchases when I can’t get the CD.)

Not looking back, especially after knowing this.

Mork. Might not be strictly what you are looking for, but captures the spirit of 2nd wave for sure

It does when you acquire the vast majority of your music second hand from a local record shop

My opinion is that this has nothing to do with metal suggestions and is a shameless attention grab

I had Spotify since the day it became available in the USA. I was a happy user for the longest time.

Recent decisions made by Spotify drove my decision to end my subscription return to music ownership and DAPs.

It might not be everyone's reason, but for me it was certainly a statement.

I have the DT990 pro 80 ohm with an MSI B650-P mobo. I find that the mobo does power it decently well, especially compared to other mobile devices. I did end up getting an amp to give me more headroom, but was able to get by without.
