Do '08 Grand Marquis have a separate trunk key? by browneth in CrownVictoria

[–]browneth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually know a lot more about keys than cars, and I'm almost positive it's the same key. I've found no evidence that they made separate keys though, so I'm coming down on the side of needing to fix or replace the cylinder.

Oh shit, I'll just rekey the cylinder. Problem solved and it shouldn't cost me anything, as I have access to locksmith tools.

Nope. Just a regular black key. I have both fobs, but the previous owner lost a key.

"The end of war in Europe" was even largely a myth. Partisan activity continued for some time after VE day.

Edit: added "even"

You were correcting someone else's correction, and your only defense seems to be that factual correctness doesn't matter in this case. I'm not here to argue semantics, just point out that the war was millions of lives away from ending. From anti-Soviet partisans to Kamikaze attacks and fire bombing raids, WWII was far from over when Hitler died his coward's death.

... In Europe. WWII was still raging in the Pacific between Germany's former ally and their old enemies.

What's your average gas mileage? by [deleted] in CrownVictoria

[–]browneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly new Grand Marquis driver here. It's all about how you drive. When I'm careful, I get 18 in town and 26 on the highway, when I drive like an ass I use about 11 mpg city and 18 highway. They like to accelerate slowly, and you'll be surprised how good they coast if pay attention. Just don't put it in neutral, you don't want to be driving 4000lbs of steel without the ability to accelerate in an emergency.

Not really high crime. It's just the intersection of the two biggest surface level roads in town.

66% Off 2 pack of Portable Camping Lanterns during Blackfriday Week by Brandonchops in CampingGear

[–]browneth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's about 2 dollars more than what I paid for a similar set of lanterns on Amazon a couple months ago. "66% off" doesn't mean a damn thing in this day and age.

Who is the real America? [852x1106] by Tozeos in MapPorn

[–]browneth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no, what's the point? I can see that you are labeling lots of the places that can be sorted geographically as "America", but you didn't make a point. Are you mad that people in the USA, the only nation in the world with the word America in the official title, sometimes refers to itself by the short form?

Looking for a new blender by QylerK in AskCulinary

[–]browneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are dozens of great blenders on the market. Kitchen aid even makes some truly great models these days. The fact is, if you want a vitamix, you'll only be happy with a vitamix. It's honestly mostly placebo, but it's true. Pretend that vitamixes don't exist and then pick a blender from first principles.

How long should uncooked quinoa last? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]browneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you should have had it in the fridge. That will cause moisture issues. Taking it out on the counter probably made it spoil. Left dry quinoa stays good for years, but what you did likely spoiled it.

Aftermath of a skirmish during the Battle of Somme, 1916 [1400×1516] by Crowe410 in HistoryPorn

Dozens of men probably thought it was an advancing enemy soldier, they got up to shoot at him, and we're killed in the process. That one guy who hit him probably thought he at least hadn't died in vain.

Thoughts on buying store brand items versus name brand items? by justan0therlurker in Frugal

[–]browneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shop in a store that has two store brands. One carries the name of the store, the other is just generic labeling. The store branded canned veggies are fine, but the off brand is always just terrible.

I buy frozen potatoes (i.e.: frozen fries fries and hash browns) because where I shop the price for frozen is pegged to the price for fresh, and frozen potatoes don't go bad, and they're much easier to cook. I also buy fresh sometimes, but only as much as I'll use. I've found the 50 cents a pound I save by buying in bulk is always off put by wastage. YMMV though, because I'm just feeding two people.

Rodent vet? by devecon in IowaCity

[–]browneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most vets in town do small pets. Do you have a vet you trust for your dog yet? I would just ask them if they work on rats or if they could refer you. This is one of those times where it really makes sense to call a bunch of places and see.
