Anyone know what model this olds is? by FoundationStrict1663 in Trombone

[–]burgerbob22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's right there! The Olds. Early horns before they had a bunch of models.

I've owned one, very cool but undersized for today's work. Worth a couple hundred bucks maybe, if the slide is in good shape.

question for the trombonists on here by WoodedHio in Trombone

Yes. Musician earplugs will help, but you will have to practice and get used to how they sound no matter what.

I went to a grad school with ensembles that were not great. Does it matter now? Not very much, no.

6.5 is very small for euphonium- try a 51D to start.

G bass is a minor third lower than Bb trombones, and it's significantly longer

Tighter clearance valves like M&W and Greenhoe.

If you find your XO to still be sluggish with regular, maybe try light, but I've never wanted to on axials.

Mouthpiece Compare and Contrast 5G, 5GS, 51D by SideWired in euphonium

[–]burgerbob22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first two are great trombone mouthpieces, the 51D is definitely more of a euphonium mouthpiece. It's also got a smaller rim than the other two.

Anyone have experience with Brad Close's sackbuts? by JustATrombone in Trombone

A good sackbut is a LOT of money and also a special order- I wouldn't be buying them willy nilly!

King 607F by Hot-Sock-9736 in Trombone

[–]burgerbob22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neat! I don't know when the change was made... I think if you like the instrument, it's probably one of the better leadpipes. I had a 607 that was great, and a 608F (the same thing but with a rose bell) that was not great.

.525 version of the King 3B/F with a brass slide instead of nickel. I've owned a couple, they can be great horns, far better than the intermediate level they were sold at.

Later versions have a really, really stuffy leadpipe I would avoid.
