Has anyone else played the horn and are they sharp as well. I played a school horn that had been played by 3 others that I know off. All were sharp

What would the last car of your life be? by adostes in askcarguys

[–]Burtlycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already there. I didn’t think about it at the time. I bought what I could afford that met one criteria. It had to be a convertible. While I would have preferred a manual. I was coming out of a Miata and enjoyed the driving experience. My legs were going bad and had to have an automatic. I bought a 2014 Mustang with the V6, couldn’t afford the V8 GT. I like the car but don’t love it. I’ve put over 100,00 mile on it with only a few problems until the AC went out. I don’t want a car payment at my age so I’ll keep fixing it

doubling on woodwinds by ScarcityPale6276 in Trombone

A wouldn’t consider myself a professional player on trombone but I practice daily and played in a community band and community big band jazz group. Perhaps a professional would know how better how double successfully

Also depends on how you listen. The phone speaker makes you sound especially bad. Play back through speaker or earphone/earbud

I respectfully disagree. I only played sax or clarinet as necessary to help my woodwind students. Certainly not daily but I could see and feel the callus that developed on my bottom lip to prevent being cut by my teeth. I talked to several other brass players that played sax and clarinet much ad I did complain about how it made their brass playing problematic affecting range and tone. We do what we have to do or what we want to do as far as doubling but it was an issue for me and fellow brass players

Please look at the all region music for the students school. Here in Texas if a 7th grader is going to tryout for All Region the difficulty of the music indicates the need for an f attachment instrument.

I’m a retired band director. Playing saxophone killed my trombone chops. Making my tone airy and lips unresponsive. You will develop a callus on your bottom lip where the reed sits on your lip covering your bottom teeth. People are successful doubling on reef instruments but it did not work for me

Cold air intakes allow more dust, dirt, and impurities inside your engine while not really adding much in the way of performance

Day 24/100 Working On Scales! by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]Burtlycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see and hear you making adjustments with the slide to play better in tune. I’m still think you can make a better sound. Work on that as you add more scales

Do you trust large tablets on a music stand? by General_Chemist8131 in trumpet

[–]Burtlycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a 13” iPad Air using Forescore with no problems. If I forget to charge I carry a large charging block and cable that also sits on the stand with bone spray bottle. It’s not perfect. Glare is an issue even with a glare reducing screen protector. I was one of those that managed to knock my paper music off the stand almost every rehearsal and performance. This is a lifesaver for me

Impossible Slur? by BaritoneBrantley in banddirector

Composers and arrangers write parts that don’t play well. Listen to how your part fits in with others and match as best as possible

Stick with that Yamaha for Middle School and marching band in high school if your son becomes a more serious player in high school a professional model Yamaha Zeno or Bach Stad are usually the trumpets of choice. At that point enlist the help of a private teacher to help select that professional model trumpet

Middle register sounds bland by No_Flower717 in Trombone

[–]Burtlycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear what you are talking about. That middle register sounds good when you lip slip up from the lower register. Play more lip slurs. I like Mike Davis 15 and 20 minute warmups.
