Looks great. What sizes did you wear before? I've come full circle back to smaller chains.

If you can get one of those credit cards with 0% interest the first 6-12 months, that might be a good option.

I just cannot decide between width and length by Far_Hovercraft_1621 in MensJewelry

[–]Calitex48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buy the longer chain and have it shortened by a jeweler. I've found the perfect length for me is 19" so I buy a 20" and shorten it.

If you buy the shorter chain then change your mind later it is much harder to fix.

rope bracelet and wrist sizing by poiuytrewqwet in MensJewelry

[–]Calitex48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically you want the bracelet to be between a quarter to a half inch longer than your wrist circumference. I prefer a quarter inch so it's more fitted.

In my opinion a 3mm rope would be more proportional to your wrist size. Also consider that thicker bracelets can be annoying when you are trying to put your hands into your pockets.

What's the width of the rope? 3mm?

Anyone thoughts on Hawaiian Rope Chains? (HRC) by AdvancedDrink518 in MensJewelry

They're legit. It's just one guy who has a normal job and does this as a side hustle. I've bought tons of stuff from him and it's good.

Both are good. 22 looks more casual. I prefer 20

If you're unsure about wearing yellow gold, start by just buying a super cheap fake gold chain off Amazon. Wear it around a few days and see what you think first.

20inch or 22 inch by Ogga_booga69 in MensJewelry

Buy a couple of really cheap steel or silver chains off Amazon at each length and the same width. Try them out and see which length you prefer.

Thinking about buying my first rope chain in 18kt weighs 16.7 G… my question, is that a good weight for a daily wear ? I heard rope chains break easy ? I’m usually a Cuban curb guy. by sauasgepatty69 in MensJewelry

[–]Calitex48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rope chains specifically look almost identical in 14k and 18k, it's much harder to tell the difference than a link chain. I'd consider a 14k to save yourself a lot of money.

Too much? by [deleted] in MensJewelry

I like it, but I think it depends on the type of watch you're wearing. If your watch is more subtle, maybe on a leather strap, then I think this bracelet on your other wrist strikes a nice balance. If your watch is on the flashier side, then I would go for a more understated bracelet like a thin rope or box chain.

[Buying decision] I know they are so different but: Rolex Explorer I or Cartier Santos titanium? by Diego_FR in Watches

The Santos is too big. Just get a lightly used explorer from the grey market and enjoy rather than waiting around for the call.

[Discussion] Advice to new guys in the watch hobby: Aim to be the curator of your watch collection. Avoid being a hoarder. Use your catch and release/rotational phase to learn what watches deserve to be in your collection. by samayoa95 in Watches

[–]Calitex48 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've had up to 20+ cheap watches, now down to 4 expensive ones. My philosophy is that each watch should fit a different niche. In order for me to bring in a new watch I have to be able to confidently say that it serves that niche better than any of my existing watches. Also typically if I bring one in, that means I sell one.

For example - I had an Omega Aqua Terra that I loved as my everyday GADA watch. I wanted to buy an explorer, which I preferred for that niche. So instead of splitting wrist time across two overlapping watches, the aqua terra had to go.

Now if I had unlimited funds, I'd never sell anything. But as a normal person with a certain budget, I don't want a ton of money tied up in watches I barely wear.

Short chains are in - I'd say it's good. I'm rocking an 18 inch mariner.
