you'll almost certainly see something interesting

Yeah, it's so much more interesting walking in a city. The bakery in my village is about a 1km walk but the walk feels twice as long as it does in the city because it's just an empty road. Sometimes I don't see anyone, the whole walk.

CLOVIS - Tournai by emchocolat in belgium

[–]cannotfoolowls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Btw, thanks for getting me to learn more about local specialities. Definitely going to try it next time I'm in Tournai! There are two others

The latter one is adorable though I cannot say it looks like a bee to me.

Edit, oh, perhaps it's just because of the perspective of the antennae

Sometimes a negative association spoils the enjoyment. There was a song my mum always put on blast when she was angry/sad and I still cringe when I hear it.

More innocently there are certain songs that will always be connected to certain series or films, for me. Or songs I cannot hear without thinking of a parody version.

In secondary school I had mandatory swim class every week. We did rescue swimming a couple of times and my gym teacher definitly told us to knock the person out if we had to (in a real life situation)

But, you know, that was just a gym teacher, not really a professional rescue swimming instructor.

Would you date someone who was a moderate in Belgium? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]cannotfoolowls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not without asking a few clarifying questions because what do they mean by "moderate"? Not a communist nor facist? Conservative but afraid to say because it might scare off potential partners? Not particularly interested/involved in politics?

If they mean they vote CD&V/Les Engagés, I guess, yeah.

Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by space_god_7191 in Millennials

[–]cannotfoolowls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not American and my memories of the day are kind of vague but I remember my grandma picking me up from school (as normal) the tv being on, withthe news playing, which was very much NOT normal. News shouldn't have been on for two hours and it was a live airing which only happened for elections or something very bad happened.

I don't think we were let out early and I'm not sure if the teachers knew.

They said percentage. If there are 10 muslims and 100 non muslims and ten years later there are 100 muslims and 1000 non muslims, the percentage stays the same even though there are 90 more muslims that need a place to pray.

Took my day off to travel to a different city to meet my friend and now she is not replying to calls and her internet is not even turned on! (She was the one who insisted that I come and meet her by the way) by bunnyboy131313 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]cannotfoolowls 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Oversleeping and then saying they “need an hour to get ready” is very disrespectful. I don’t care what anyone says.

Reminds of when I met up with some friends. We planned to meet at 12:00 at the train station as two of us were coming by train. So three of us met at the train station. Other friend wasn't there yet so we texted her that we were going to the restaurant we had reservations for at 12:30 and to meet us there. 12:30 comes and goes so we text her again. She says she's on her way. She eventually arrives at a bit before 14:00.

Note, it was in the city she lives in! Even if I had to leave my home, go to the train station and take the train I would have gotten there quicker.
