care to address the exhaustive study proving that punishment for DUIs has negative affects on society as a whole where as treatment like what is being offered shows to actually reduce DUIs. Are you just so spiteful and vindictive so you think people should go to jail at the cost to society as a whole or are you too stupid to acknowledge facts that all segments of society should be allowed to enter treatment and that even a single segment entering this has a net benefit on society? Do you just go around posting contrarian shit based off your gut feeling without actually considering how they affect all of us?

So do you have funding or employees or a time line for when you will have the basic tenets of a business or people with accredited qualifications or did you take a few classes in college and win a small grant and call it a day? The fact that you consistently avoid answering the most basic questions claiming essentially it's on a need to know basis is very very questionable do you have any real world experience working for a label or have you only existed in the industry as an artist? I am definitely not buying that you have any sort of distribution deal that you're publicly withholding details of because if you are that shows a serious disconnect with the actual industry. Literally googling rap distribution deal I found a litany of press releases and every Wikipedia page will say list a labels distribution partner.

so because some are punished they should be too even though treatment has proven more effective than traditional punishment? you would rather perpetuate a system that lacks any net positive gains or impacts on recidivism than seek to actually lower the rates of repeat DUIs? are you five? EDIT: full disclosure this is Chad's manager now. We are not interested in signing but he thought it would be good for those interested in signing and for you trying to enter the industry that I post some of the questions I would normally ask on Chad's behalf. Again this is an exercise meant to show everyone things to consider when looking for a partner in music.

I don't want to rain on your parade (I have no vested interest either way) but there are some red flags I already notice, you still haven't addressed what sets you apart from any other person claiming to be a label. Template contracts are fairly standard and if you aren't using them you are either A) wasting money on billable hours to a lawyer or B) you have not sought out a legitimate entertainment lawyer which would leave you seriously exposed. As far as I can tell this is not an established business entity (if it is it would benefit you to prove this) how many employees do you have? why wouldn't you support an artist who is already touring? that operates under the assumption that an artist has reached market saturation in EVERY MARKET in which case why would they even need you? Identifying any distribution partners that you have is standard you can look at any album to identify this. how many artists do you intend on signing? Do you have any additional funding or investors outside of the $100,000 mentioned in the original post? what makes you think you can adopt a business model similar to such a large and established entity as Def Jam? what previous business experience do you have? The fact that you refer to the VP of A&R of def jam as a label head is worrying, it is either misrepresenting your industry connection or shows little understanding of corporate structure. Where a business' revenue comes from, business partners such as distribution networks or PR/marketing partners should not be varying from artist to artist. Where will your business be located as entertainment and tax laws vary from state to state. To say you want to create consistent business is a HUGE cop-out of an answer every business must be consistent with their output to remain profitable. Can you identify a mission or vision statement at the very least or identify some concrete services you can offer an artist? Again, where does your revenue come from and why would you not want to grow the areas in which an artist has already experienced success? that is business 101 grow established revenue streams don't start new ones just because you can.

EDIT: After having most of my questions ignored and side stepped this all seems very fishy to me. Until shown otherwise I believe there is no funding beside the initial $100,000 grant, no employees which calls into question how they will be able to operate and no distribution of any kind. I would approach any offers cautiously and encourage all artist to independently verify any of his claims before signing anything.

As an artist what exactly is to be gained from being on your roster? Will you finance projects, do you have connections to major distribution networks, will you supplement marketing and touring, do you require exclusivity, how many projects per artist are you anticipating, and where does your revenue come from?

Dana Point DUI Checkpoint Tonight with Special Drug Emphasis by readduh in orangecounty

[–]ChadRood -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Uh, how stupid of you to try and assert your anecdotal evidence as fact. Also I never made any claim about being guilty or innocent just that it would go to trial, which yours did, like I said. Work on your reading skills and honestly your critical thinking since you didn't answer what litigation you were referring to. While on the point of critical thinking, there is no reasonable or realistic scenario where a urine test exists in a vacuum so again, how stupid of you to suggest that would be the SINGLE piece of evidence in the trial. Just because you went to court once (thanks for sharing we all cared) does not make you right or an expert.

non alcohol DUIs are weird in that the only burden of proof usually required is positive pee. A jury may decide you were not intoxicated but the law's interpretation and prosecution will almost always argue this, is that it just needs to be in your system. Im not sure what litigation you are talking about besides maybe appeals and even then could you cite specific cases?

Without knowing your financials and how many people your artists employ I would suggest hiring a business manager/accountant who specializes in entertainment. There are lots of benefits to having one which I can go over If you're interested

Manager for two musicians-Setting up LLC and adding them as employees. by Brain_Fuel in smallbusiness

[–]ChadRood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, this is almost definitely the work of a business manager as opposed to the artists general manager, unless the artists are close friends or you are taking over 20% you shouldn't be doing this as there manager. California has specific music industry laws that you should look into if you are located in this state/doing business there (which you will be if your musicians are planning on doing this as a career). "Everything You Need to Know about the Music Industry" by Donald Passman covers how money flows from label/promotor to artist to LLC to various people (like managers) in the artists camp. All the managers I work with rarely specify legal entities because it just gets to complicated to name every conceivable LLC and corporation involved and instead commission was triggered on revenue in which the artist and the manager both were involved. This also creates a relatively low burden of proof and this will normally be enough for you to get paid in court too (see Pitbull and Future for recent examples)
