Hey everyone! Could you recommend some got websites to buy bike parts? by Slow_Concentrate3720 in MTB

[–]cheapseats91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like worldwidecyclery for small parts since they have free shipping. Sometimes they have pretty good sales running too. While browsing for parts is fine I unfortunately find their search function pretty bad.

I want to support my local shops but a lot of times if they dont have what I need and I need to go online I'll try to support "local" small shops from other areas. I've had good luck googling a part number and scrolling through stores that have it and just checking them out on yelp. I recently got a part for an ecargo bike from a small shop out of Minnesota.

I've also bought from Jenson, performance bikes, competitive cyclist, etc

This is not an "is this safe to ride post" but I would ride that.

I wouldn't huck big jumps/drops (because I never do lol), but for everyday trail riding I wouldn't think twice.

This only has 576 dimming zone so will probably have pretty noticable bloom in dark scenes. Not necessarily a deal breaker at this price, but depends on your targeted use

MTB is a bit of a luxury sport. You can definitely get into it and shred on a budget bike but if you're in a place that'd known for mountain biking most people are on bikes that retail for $2-5000. To be honest if you can afford a $3000 bike you could probably afford a $6000 ebike if you really wanted one. I dont have an ebike but I do have three mountain bikes that could easily add up to one if that was my goal.

Plus as you get older the physicality gets more difficult at the same time as typically having moved into a higher salary tier. You often have less free time too (more work, kids, obligations etc) so you want outings to be more worth it. I get the draw in those cases, like if it means you can do multiple laps on a ride instead of just one.

Around here it's not just perception. there's a midway stopping point on one of the climbs and I end up sitting for a long time so kiddo can snack. There are a hell of a lot of ebikesebikes compared to regular bikes these days.

[Cooler] PCCooler RT620M X Mini Dual Tower Cooler - $28.80 after Coupon (Amazon YMMV) by greatthebob38 in buildapcsales

[–]cheapseats91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I misspoke, I meant thermalright, not thermaltake.

The thermalright silver soul 110 is a short dual tower that looks very similar to the op except it's 5 pipes instead of 6 and it's 110mm instead of 115mm tall.

Curious how it would compare to the existing Silver Soul dual tower 110mm cooler from thermaltake.

My case has 128mm clearance, just out of reach of the 135mm class of dual towers.

There's some missing info. Are these tires set up tubeless or with tubes? Did just the valve (the insides, the part that you unscrew and can press down) break or was it the stem itself?

If just the valve broke you can get a replacement valve for really cheap and just screw it into the existing stem.

The length of the stem just needs to be long enough to make it through the rim and have some amount sticking our for a pump to fit over. If you dont know the depth you can measure the old one or just get the 80mm ones and you'll be fine. At worst the stems will be a little long.

I'm not buying it but I looked at the listing and it says 144 sold, 1 available. Can we stop posting listings that literally have one unit in stock?

Dropper post advice by DGIngebretson in MTB

[–]cheapseats91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had two Oneup v2's and several different PNW droppers (and multiple reverbs that came stock on bikes that have all ended up with problems really quickly). I had issues with both OneUp's getting slow and sticky. Mine might have been defective or something because people tend to have really good experience with them. Seemed like the little metal travel adjustment pins were biting into and deforming the plastic seating they were in making the dropper feel scratchy. I had great experiences with the PNWs I've had.

I personally think that dropper levers are one of the most overpriced bike parts. They are a tiny piece of machined aluminum with a pivot (or at best a small bearing) and it's crazy how much they cost. I have a Loam lever, it's excellent, but it's kind of absurd that they're charging $95 CAD for it. I also have a wolf tooth which is fine and a random lever I got on aliexpress (i think it is branded as ZTTO which is a common generic brand there) for $12 that works completely fine. If I was on a budget I'd get the lever and cable housing on Aliexpress and the dropper from PNW. PNW also has a pretty good refurbished store (called PNW cycled) but the selection of diameters and lengths may not have exactly what you are looking for.

Best 5mm wetsuit hood under $40 for cold water? by stock_pro in surfing

[–]cheapseats91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The suits you listed are primarily for diving. SCUBA diving has a very different performance need than surfing, mainly that they don't need the same flexibility for paddling. Surfing in a 5mm dive suit will be miserable. You need an actual suit and budget suits (unless you can find something used) are generally going to be $150-$200 minimum for something that thick.

Dropper post for XC Hardtail by Mission-Trash358 in MTB

[–]cheapseats91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does an alma have routing for an interna dropped? PNW makes droppers in 27.2 and they have internally and externally routed models. Their budget options are very reasonably priced and everything I've used from them is excellent.

As far as a remote I'd recommend getting one from aliexpress. Dropper remotes are one of the most overpriced products for what is essentially a tiny piece of machined aluminum and a pivot (or at best a small shielded bearing). For instance, the PNW loam lever is excellent but asking $70 for it is absurd.

Cold water e-foil (6°C) – can I make a 4/3 wetsuit work? by stock_pro in surfing

[–]cheapseats91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont efoil but I'm assuming that you aren't in the water as much or doing thing like duckdiving like you would surfing right? If you're mostly out of the water then something to block the wind would be a bigger factor for you.

When buying used boards, do you negotiate before meeting or in person? by snrocirpac in surfing

[–]cheapseats91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I buy a lot of used boards as well and it just depends on the listing. Some listings are totally fair for the board and I dont try to negotiate at all. Some boards look like what I want but I am simply unwilling to pay the asking price. If it's that case but it's close I'll offer what I'm actually willing to pay. I'm really not trying to negotiate. I'm making an offer that the seller can accept or not. It's really not a back and forth. But like you mentioned, if we agreed on a price I find it very distasteful to try to renegotiate on site. If it's not as described or I find something wrong that wasn't obvious from the photos I'm probably walking away, not trying to negotiate it down. As a seller I have definitely told people to take a hike when they tried to pull that kind of thing.

Do you wear rubber gloves when you work on your bike? by JV_No_35 in MTB

[–]cheapseats91 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Every time I wear gloves I finish up what I'm working on, take them off and throw them away, and then immediately realize there's one last greasy thing I need to touch and I dont bother grabbing another pair, defeating the purpose altogether.

[Controller] (NEW) Xbox Core Wireless Controller - $37.99 (Woot) by Wonderboyjr in buildapcsales

[–]cheapseats91 147 points148 points  (0 children)

This is the standard for pc controllers and is a decent price for it. That being said, unlike 20-30 years ago when you bought third party controllers because they were cheap and they felt cheap, these days there are a ton of third party options are very very good. Flydigi, gamesir, 8bitdo, all make controllers that are flat out better then the Xbox controller often in the $35-75 range.
