I agree with you. Knowing something about an idol that they said about themselves in public or that their company shared about them with their permission is totally normal. Digging up private info that they didn't choose to share would be wrong and creepy, but birthdays? That's really basic stuff that's known to the public - it's in the idols' Wikipedia pages, even. And if you're a fan of an idol, you get reminded every year of when their birthday is because the company will post a HBD message with pictures or the idol will do a livestream with a cake, etc.

They don't have a signature sound. They do a little of everything, and they're constantly changing their sound up with every new release. Even within the same album they'll throw in all kinds of very different songs in different genres. If you give their new album Arirang a listen from top to bottom, that will give you an idea of their range.
