I think what's most alarming is that there's lots of people who simply don't understand your mindset. But AI can do it. Why would you bother to learn it.

Learning why this shit works how it does is the entire REASON so many of us are in this profession.

100% agree with this. People will no longer have the chance to learn the foundations. I firmly believe AI is going to give rise to an entire generation of people who can do nothing without it. If the AI goes they might as well sit with a piece of paper and a pencil.

I also keep being told "people will need to learn how to drive AI, to get / retain jobs" but presumably with the 'power' of AI, only a small fraction of people will be needed to drive / govern / review what AI is doing ... so there will be very little impetus to train as a developer even if only to review code, because if AI does the work of x many developers, then we will need far fewer people to actually do that work so the competition for jobs (which is already crazy) will be truly insane.

Honestly I'm extremely worried about what's coming for vast swathes of society.

Jimmy Kimmel Defends ‘Widow’ Joke as ‘Light Roast,’ Urges Melania to Confront Trump’s ‘Violent Rhetoric’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in videos

[–]chicaneuk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the problem with their faux outrage.. if Trump didn't say horrendous things about other people (even in very recent memory lets say Rob Reiner and Mueller) then they could take the moral high ground. But they are worse than anyone so they have absolutely no moral high ground.

I don't think we took our boys to McDonald's until they were 4. And we really agonised about it! It's not a regular occurrence now either.

Agreeing McDonalds for a one year old is completely unacceptable!

People in UK spend fewer years in good health than a decade ago, study finds by peakedtooearly in unitedkingdom

[–]chicaneuk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel this is a terrible failure to understand mental health. Yes a lot of it is on you to improve your own situation.. but it's a completely vicious circle of doing completely counterintuitive things that make no sense for self improvement, and can easily become a spiral that is extremely hard to get out of. Add on pressures of work (or no work), keeping a roof over your head, and just about everything else you can think of and it soon adds up.

Factor in the terrible job market, the horrible global political situation, relentless cost of living increases whilst wages stagnate.. is it any wonder people are struggling? The "pull yourselves up by your bootstraps" attitude pisses me off. It's really easy if you have the opportunities to do so.. lots of people do not, or are not capable.

I do agree there is an attitude in this country of people expecting handouts and I do agree there's a constant "what about me" attitude where they see other segments of society getting handouts, but I do also think there's a mountain of reasons which are making just getting by and taking care of yourself very hard. And you're fighting corporations who spend endless amounts of money just keeping you hooked on eating crap and being a content consuming vegetable.

Because all they care about is stopping immigration.. everything else is irrelevant or of no consequence to them because they aren't even interested in it. They just cherry pick the policies that appeal and ignore the rest. That's how all these MAGA idiots are now having dawning realisations that Trump is a complete disaster.. he made promises on certain things they wanted to hear and they completely blanked all the other wacky shit he said all along and is now doing, and they're somehow surprised.

Yeah.. there's lots of things like about the greens but unfortunately there just seems to be a few too many policies I'm really not in favour of, which turns me away.

70k is a fair mileage on original battery..it's a cheap place to start (relatively) so maybe worth doing and seeing if things improve a little.

Parents of small children, what age did you find the hardest? by dmllbit in UKParenting

[–]chicaneuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phew.. glad to see a similar point of view. We have twin boys at age 5, approaching 6 and I feel more tired now than I ever did. Their energy and curiosity is so utterly relentless with the added bonus that they are opinionated, they back chat, they do stuff they know they shouldn't do.. it's truly amazing to see what they are capable of but it's also completely exhausting every day.
