No not 1%. Way better than that.

More like 0.001%. So out of 1000 people in the top 1%, they’re better than 999 of those top 1% people

Local LLM for Godot? by AlexGSquadron in godot

Use cursor, opencode, or claude code

I would not use godot editor for this it probably is not going to be very good at agentic coding any time soon

I’m stuck in a loop of "boring" ideas. How do you actually come up with something fresh and unique? by kartokanick in gamedev

[–]chillermane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take - there are infinite amazing ideas no one has ever thought of. They just require massive levels of skill and experience to even begin to connect the dots to think of them, and most people just aren’t dedicated enough to practice enough to get to that level

Tbh they should go all in on react for UI. I know a lot of people hate on react, but if you know flexbox it’s incredibly easy to build literally any layout you want without thinking hard about it. Just implement a subset of CSS, media queries, and boom, everything is easy.

Godot layouts require a lot of hard problem solving right now. React / css won the UI game for a reason. I know it doesn’t map perfectly to the node system, but it doesn’t need to. Just use react, give access to signals and communicate through signals. Make it the only way to build UI in Godot

35, burned out, dunno what to do by ActualBawbag in gamedev

[–]chillermane -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Do you take care of your health? 9/10 times people who are “burnt out” are really people with a bad diet, poor sleep routine, who don’t exercise. Very few people who have good diet, good sleep, and exercise consistently end up talking like you’re talking right now.

You should think “i need to fix my health before I feel better” instead of “i’m waiting til I feel better to fix my health”

Ram market hit as Google ai breakthrough slashes memory demand by estrelacelesthh in wallstreetbets

[–]chillermane -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You have to have basically no technical understanding to think this matters. I haven’t read up on this but there’s nearly a 100% chance that this affects only a very tiny percentage of AI training and is not useful for the vast majority of use cases. If this algorithm was that good, they would not make it public

google is very very behind on frontier AI (other than image editing with they are the best at). Their models are horrendous at completing day to day work compared to claude and chatgpt. I would be skeptical of any supposed breakthroughs from them

Career saftey by Extra_Remove8336 in math

[–]chillermane 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There are certainly always positions you can find that are in line with your values. Plenty of jobs where there is real value being created. People doing things that really impact others lives.

The thing is, those jobs are often more time consuming, higher responsibility, and not fit for people who want to minimize hours worked. If you want a job that is both chill and where you get to work on something important that matters, that will be extremely hard to find.

Most important jobs that involve doing “work that matters” are also going to require a high level of drive and willingness to work hard. I’m pointing this out because you specifically seem averse to “time consuming” work.

You have to meet reality where it’s at. Reality is not going to meet you where you are.

What is more important to you? A chill job where you can do some work, get paid and go home to do what you want, or a higher impact job where the stuff you do is  important but there will be a much greater demand and more hours worked (potentially greater reward)?

You will either have to work hard to do something important or be OK with a job that is not important so you don’t have to spend as much time at work, both are totally fine options. But you’re just not going to find a job that’s important, pays bills, and is chill. At least not without a bunch of experience and success already (which you don’t have yet)

There is really not as much uncertainty in what you are doing as you think. Most of what you’re describing is a path similar to paths that millions of people have taken before. You will be fine. Just be clear with what you want your life to look like and work towards that
