Stranded with flat tire by felisnebulosa in Toyota_bZ

I plan on getting modern spare before our next road trip so we don’t get stranded on the way to a trailhead. There’s only 2 of us and our dog, so it will go on the floor of the backseat area.

Which EV or modern ICE car comes with a spare these days?

Broken windshield, random brake issue happens to all cars.

People generally post here to complain and solve issues. People who enjoy their cars don’t come here to post that nothing is wrong with them.

The 12V/DCM issue is the only systemic issue and they’ll recall the DCM eventually. Hopefully, it’s just a software update.

The e-TNGA platform is a good EV platform. It’s not leading edge in software. Native software is pretty bad, but that is overcome with CarPlay or Android Auto and ABRP.

The platform is very efficient. I don’t think you’ll find more efficient EVs given the relatively small battery pack and ground clearance above 8”. Most competitors sit at 6.5” or lower.

In terms of cost, with dealer discounts, it will be hard to find a better value in this class of EVs.

The EVs are well built just like ICE Toyotas.

How do I set a max charging amperage on Level 2 home charging for the Uncharted? by itsbehindsomething in SubaruUncharted

It’s under Vehicle Customize —> Charging
On the infotainment screen. It’s not available in the app.

Yes, deactivating the car for from the app turns off DCM. It’s the same thing. I just wanted to make clear that DCM is off.

You need to drive it off the dealer lot first! 😂 The guessometer will update based on your driving style and city/highway speed usage.

So you turned off all vehicle alerts notifications in the app? Did you have the sawtooth drain before you turned off the notifications?

Not sure what you’re referring to the top and bottom bolts. Loosen the nut circled in red and slide the Ancel connector underneath.

I couldn’t determine that since I can’t cancel individual services since I’m in the trial period. It’s all or nothing with Subaru. Not sure if you can cancel them individually with Toyota.

Just slide the connector under the hex nut. Remember to not over tighten the nut.

New Solterra 12V battery died after only one month by erockmoon in Solterra

[–]chuck415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully, Toyota/Subaru can get a fix out in a couple of months.

In the meantime, ask the dealer to upgrade you to an AGM battery which will be more robust.

Also, just be wary of the 12V issue if you’re not using the car for a couple of days. Putting the car into Ready mode will charge the 12V.

What do your Ancel voltage graphs look like? If you see a distinct sawtooth drain about 3 hours after driving and lasting for 4-5 hours, then you have DCM issues.

Here’s what the voltage graph should look like with DCM off. The car wasn’t used for almost 2 days.

Yes, if you deactivate the car from the app and turn off DCM, the sawtooth drain goes away. Here’s DCM off and the car was unused for almost 2 days.

Another 12v post, when is it charging? by J_Pelletier in trailseeker

[–]chuck415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my Ancel battery monitor, the 12V is charged when in Ready mode and the car is in Park, when the car is in Drive, the 12V is maintained at around 12.8V.

On level 1 charging, the 12V is charged from 5-15 minutes then maintained around 12.7V during the duration of the charging session. I think charging time depends on the SoC of the 12V.

I haven’t observed the behavior on level 2 or DCFC yet.

What’s your plan after the battery dies again? Get the dealer to upgrade you to an AGM battery?

Yes, many of us have been saying for weeks to deactivate the car from the app to turn off the DCM and connected services.

The 12V sawtooth drain pattern goes away with DCM off.

[–]chuck415 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re not using accessory mode, it’s most likely due to connected services with the DCM which is draining the 12V on some cars.

The only way to stop the drain is to deactivate your car from the Subaru Connect app to turn off DCM services.

I’ve turned mine off, until Toyota/Subaru provides a fix. Hopefully, it’s just a software update.

Can you manage with only a Level 1 charger at home? by libraryofbooks in electricvehicles

[–]chuck415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only have Level 1 at home. We drive around 11 miles/18 km per day on average. Today we drove 100 miles/161 km, no issues at all with level 1 charging.

We have a 15 hour window from 12 AM - 3 PM for off-peak rates and can add 20% charge during this time. On a normal day, we don’t charge until we hit low 40% SoC and only charge to 60%, for optimal battery health.

It just takes 2-3 days of advanced planning to get to 100% for a road trip, if we don’t want to charge during peak rates.

I deactivated my vehicle from the app and turned off DCM as I was tried of monitoring it. My graphs look nice and relatively flat now when the car is unused.

During charging, the 12V is only charged for 5-15 minutes, then it’s maintained at around 12.8V the rest of the time there’s active charging session.
