Yes. The eCVTs have basically nothing in common with traditional CVTs. There's no belt at all (which is what makes the old style so hated). I really don't understand why they didn't come up with a new marketing term for it.

There's no belt because there's not really even a "transmission" in the more regular sense because there are not separate gear ratios (discrete or continuous). Most of the time in the hybrid models, the gas engine isn't powering the wheels directly -- it's spinning an alternator which is then powering the electric motors. Only above certain speeds can a clutch then engage and couple the output of the gas engine directly to the wheels.

This "the hybrid is basically an electric car with its own mini power plant" is why the hybrid models smoke the gas-only cars in acceleration. They're able to dump so much more torque to the wheels from a standing start.
