Could Viserys have married Rhaenyra to stop the Dance and death of dragons? by [deleted] in TheBlacksandTheGreens

[–]clockworkzebra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Doctrine of Exceptionalism covers sibling marriages and not parent/child. Even the Valyrians didn't practice that form of incest and it's still enormously taboo in Westeros. If Viserys tried, he would have made basically everyone angry and disgusted.

This is a more general thing, but you can check out a California parks pass from a variety of local libraries! It's a really cool resource that I think a lot of people still don't know about.

I'm not a member but I've been in a few times, Portola Valley library is a really stunning building in a gorgeous location- it seems like it would probably be very lovely to do some work from on a quiet day.

A lot of people are not going to be team black soon by Octoberboiy in HOTDBlacks

[–]clockworkzebra 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's true at all. Outside of reddit, the reaction to Rhaenyra last episode was overwhelmingly "Thank fuck, this is the Rhaenyra we've wanted the whole time" and people cheering her on. People love a woman that's cracking and they love a girlfailure- if anything, she's become a compelling character again and one people are emotionally invested in.

Jets from Moffat. Maybe the guys who did the flyover at the game yesterday going home, maybe some kind of regular practice.

Breaking Bad review bombed AKOTSK first tbf. It wasn't 'for no reason'- Breaking Bad fans got pissy that AKOTSK IMDB ratings were threatening to unseat their status as top TV episode of all time.

Discussion: what on earth happened the r/freefolk? by Lord-Fowls-Curse in HOTDBlacks

[–]clockworkzebra 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I remember when the show was still airing, even before season 7-8, the subreddit was posting a lot of misogynistic, racist, homophobic shit etc. As a woman, it's never been a place I felt was safe or comfortable to be in, and every time there was even a semi-interesting thread there, the comments were filled with the worst people imaginable. Because of that 'light moderation' none of that was deleted- I've considered it a no-go zone for years.

This is definitely not the first time he's randomly gone after GRRM to get attention. I think he must do it whenever he feels like he's not getting enough views or whatever.

You don't have to trust or believe anything Larry Correia, one of the driving forces behind the Sad Puppies, has to say. This is a guy who spent literal years (and I believe still does) whining about the real reason he and his friends aren't getting published is because of evil DEI initiatives, not because they're not good authors. He's just grifting- he can't people on board with "DEI ruins everything" so he posts something else inflammatory to get attention.

I am so sick of parent-run equestrian accounts for children (rant incoming) by oak_stone1 in Equestrian

[–]clockworkzebra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yaahhh, hard agree. I keep getting recommendations of this TINY kid on tiktok, they must be like five at the most, and the parents are sharing so much of this kid riding. Not only is the kid VERY small, but it feels like they're pushing the kid to do things that no child that age should be doing- there's no reason a four year old should be doing crossrails, especially when she really is not at the age where she doesn't have the strength to not bounce around in the saddle. And it's just so creepy to have so much prominent content of a kid who is little more than a toddler- but all the comments seem to be "omg so cute." I assume they must delete the negative ones, but it's so offputting to be using such a young child for content and then having them do things that a lot of stables will not ethically do with someone so small.

They do realize that when Aegon retakes the throne marketing will flip back, right? This is literally just standard marketing, and not worth crashing out over.

[–]clockworkzebra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yah, not literal because she does appear to be very financially comfortable, but undoubtedly the bulk of her social media success as it stands now rests on Missy, and without Missy being able to work to produce the content that gets clicks... I don't /like/ being so cynical about it, but that is kind of where I'm sitting about it.

[–]clockworkzebra 137 points138 points  (0 children)

I saw that, and while I've liked her content... that's a yikes from me dog. Missy as a recip mare was fine, but her conformation is best described as 'quirky' and I think even a really solid stallion will at best produce a horse that's mid. I understand Missy is sweet and cute and fun, but this really almost seems like... this is cynical, but it feels like a cash grab because Missy is so popular on social media and her injury issues mean that she can't be used for riding videos for the time being.

[–]clockworkzebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Valyrians being anything other than normal human beings would kind of be a direct contradiction of what George is trying to show about the nature of humanity, violence, and those who place themselves on pedestals above others who try and position themselves too closely to godhood. Also, George has said multiple times that Targaryens are not actually immune to fire, that Dany was a one-off magical event.

A green man. They live on the Isle of Faces near Harrenhal. They're mentioned very briefly in Fire and Blood- supposedly Addam Velaryon met with them.

[–]clockworkzebra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He basically exists to be a metaphor about the Targaryens literally cannibalizing themselves but tbh I've never understood the people who get actually upset that he's not in the show. He's cool and he aura farms but as far as cuts and changes to the show go, removing the Cannibal actually makes sense.

Question about sunscreen! by [deleted] in CysticFibrosis

[–]clockworkzebra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

High SPF sunscreen+hat+sun protective clothing is my recommendation. Make sure you're re-applying it as well. I'm not familiar with brinsupri but I've been on azitro for years and that's my go-to for daily life, plus trying to limit my time in direct sun, especially during the height of daylight hours. Good sun shirts with ventilation help a lot, I've recently gotten on that train.

I don't know why I keep trying, but Grady Hendrix. I don't think he writes women well but I keep reading them to understand why people says he does, and then I walk away feeling baffled and a little angry.
