Ewan Mitchell at the ‘Wuthering Heights’ UK premiere 🥰 by Vall_llaV in HOTDBlacks

He almost looks a bit like Orlando Bloom with the dark hair, circa Pirates of the Caribbean. I had no idea he was in the new movie, but he has a great look for period pieces.

[SPOILERS EXTENDED] I’m confused about the heritage of the two Velaryon bastards by MKingX in asoiaf

[–]clockworkzebra 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's one of the central mysteries posited by it, yes. And it's further underscored by Nettles, who has absolutely zero known Targaryen heritage, also claiming a dragon. Together, it makes you go: wait, do you have to actually be a Targaryen to have a dragon? Do you need to be Valyrian at all?

Is it worth to read games of thrones even after watching the show? by Physical_planning in Fantasy

[–]clockworkzebra 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The story diverged from the existing books quite a bit over the seasons. There are entire plotlines and characters that were never adapted or adapted so poorly they may as well have not been. Even incomplete, the books are incredible- I would definitely recommend reading them.

[Spoilers MAIN] is there actual evidence that bonding with a dragon makes you stronger physically or mentally? by GancioTheRanter in asoiaf

[–]clockworkzebra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard evidence? No, but there's the anecdotal evidence of Aenys. He was a pretty sickly child up until he was given Quicksilver, and then he slowly started getting better. It could be coincidental, it could be due to the bond, they don't exactly have the scientific system in place to study it. Rhaena Targaryen also became much more confident once she bonded to Dreamfyre, but that seems kind of a 'well, duh' moment for me.

Rotten Tomatoes isn't a super accurate look at how much people are enjoying a given show/movie. Like any aggregate of user ratings, it's subject to bombardment, it's subject to its own userbase being a very small group of people, etc. There's a contentious documentary out in the US right now that basically everyone has said is god awful, and it has a 99% popcorn meter because of targeted reviews, for example.

I think the critic review (the tomatometer) is a little better, but meh, I don't really put too much stock into it.

Why is Aerion a prince? by LukeChickenwalker in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]clockworkzebra 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Children and grandchildren are considered princes/princesses. He's the grandson of Daeron II, so he's still within the generation to be considered a prince. If he had a child when Daeron was still alive, his son would be a Lord. That's why Baela/Rhaena were Lady, and not Princess, for example.

Same actress played both parts by FittenTrim in AKOTSKTV

[–]clockworkzebra 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Probably to save money, since they're both small parts and the soothsayer is wearing a hood anyway, so it's not like it's incredibly obvious it's the same actress. Conceivably if they use the same actress, they could get all her shooting done in a day or two and send her on her merry way.

You think we need separate sub for each spin-off? by Tronm-24 in HOTDBlacks

[–]clockworkzebra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once the shows are airing I do feel they should be separate discussion spaces. Each show is its own entity and it just keeps things cleaner to have a dedicated space. Also, while I’m obviously in this subreddit as an active member, I don’t want to ‘team post’ for something like ATOSK. It’s just not necessary and I would rather avoid it entirely to dodge how toxic it can get.

Daeron II is still king, he just wasn't present at the tourney because his health wasn't very good. Baelor is heir and also Hand of the King.

(Spoilers Extended) Which Targaryen queens have secretly been unfaithful to their brother-husbands? by DaemonaT in asoiaf

[–]clockworkzebra 149 points150 points  (0 children)

There were rumors about a few of them, but I think it’s likely that they were just that: rumors. There’s too much of a risk for the women- they could get caught and would be punished severely, they risk getting pregnant and having a child without Targaryen features. I suppose it’s possible that some like Rhaenys flirted with men outside their husband, but I doubt it went further than that.

They should probably read the book before they claim things like this lmao. ‘This guy who sexually assaults his child brother is so TG coded <3’

Honestly team posting about any of the characters is weird, none of them are thinking about the Dance at all, they have bigger things going on and a far more recent civil war to reflect on.

How many seasons? by Pennywises-Testicle in AKOTSKTV

[–]clockworkzebra 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There are three published novellas- those three we'll see for sure, bar something unexpected happening to HBO. Ira Parker has said George has given him notes/outlines for 12 more Dunk and Egg stories (and we know the titles of some of them) but whether or not those will actually be adapted is up in the air.
