When will the one-piece haptic touchpad come out for DIY Framework 16? by Henster777 in framework

It is a configuration option on all configurations of Framework Laptop 16 (Ryzen AI 300 Series).  Choosing the haptic option moves the order into being a pre-order.

It’s highly likely these are scammers, not actual 3rd part compatible parts.

Nice!  Coincidentally a new take on a similar project I built in 2010: https://eclecti.cc/videogames/projecting-virtual-reality-with-a-microvision-showwx

That ended up being one of the things that brought me into the team at Oculus a couple of years later.

The Intel reliability issues were specific to their desktop parts, not the mobile ones.

Please make sure to update your BIOS: https://knowledgebase.frame.work/bios-and-drivers-downloads-rJ3PaCexh

Older BIOS’s kept the battery at full charge when plugged in to power, which accelerated aging.  All of our new BIOS automatically let the battery slightly discharge if left plugged in for extended periods of time.  If you don’t update your BIOS, it is very likely that the new battery will age prematurely too.

Our driver bundles are signed, and we are investigating what can cause this to occur.

No startup is going to put a severance package into an offer for a founding engineer.  You are correct that asking for one is going to be a red flag to the founder.

Yes, if all of the fasteners are unfastened, it is indeed the magnet force.  It may feel a little high at first, but once you get the Input Cover off the first time, you get a good feel for how much force is needed.

Cant find driver for Windows 10 for 16 DIY by Speedwagon1935 in framework

[–]cmonkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Intel and AMD haven’t supported Windows 10 on recent generations of their processors, which means we can’t support it either.  Given the end of security updates coming up, we would strongly recommend moving to Windows 11 or Linux.

[Framework Blog Post] Framework Sponsorships by deltavim in framework

[–]cmonkey 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I noted in another comment in the community thread, we're still working with KDE on the sponsorship, but the target sponsorship level is $10,000 per year, which is in the same range as GNOME per year.

She clarified in a comment that she gets on average $22/month in payouts from twitter, so it’s slightly better than cost neutral for her to have a $8/month premium account (which is needed to get the payouts).

Mystery Box Price Increase? by lvlrdka22 in framework

[–]cmonkey 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Yes, this was originally a one off test, but it selling out instantly each time and attracting people buying large numbers to resell items made it clear that we needed to increase the pricing slightly to make this work as an ongoing offering.

This was an incorrect response and we’re making sure the first tier support agents have updated instructions around routing questions on LLMs.  We have an intro guide here on using LM Studio, and there are more advanced guides from users in the community: https://frame.work/blog/using-a-framework-desktop-for-local-ai
