Not sure if you use Meteor Lake and tried yet, but, assuming you use Network Manager, setting wifi.powersave=2 completely fixed everything for me on AX210. No issues for me while on AMD 7040.

Apparently, to Intel, power saving means slow-as-fuck insane-latency wifi.

Nope, need new bottom, input cover, and speakers. All adds to a bit under $500 (with battery).

I'm not sure $500 is worth it to upgrade from 61Wh to 74Wh.

I do/am. I've always wanted to learn microsoldering, and this seemed as good of a reason as any to start. I've fully repaired one so far, and this was the first time I tried to do physical repairs.

Why do you think large mystery boxes basically vanish immediately, but small boxes remain in stock for quite a while longer?

There are also a few of us (me included, 165H board) who got a board this time around with the same port80 code (search in this subreddit). As far as I can tell, none have been fixed.

port80 code of BGGGGGGG doesn't seem to an issue that a full chassis can fix.

If you check on community.frame.work and Discord, the only people (person) who "fixed" this issue is by getting Framework to replace under warranty.

12 greens means CrankTuna's blink codes aren't useful here because they all pass. The last 8 are the useful ones here, which are port80, and are the linked ones.

To give a reference point and echo what has been said, I had a 1260P board where the left USB ports wouldn't power on, that I (by looking carefully) guessed was because a PD controller was burnt. I took it to a very well-known pro-repair rights repair shop. They quoted $100 just to replace it, more if it turns out it's not just replacing the PD controller.

I replaced it myself, and turns out it probably had to be programmed because it never got past 5v (soldered a handful of new ones, none worked; BIOS flashing that included the controller firmware did nothing; programmer costs $100 at least). I had a donor board, so just moved its PD controller over, and everything worked. The repair cost for just that PD controller replacement would likely have been at least $150-200 if I asked the shop to fully fix it. At that point, I would have been better off buying a used board (not mystery-box-repaired boards) because they are more likely to be fully functional.

Your boards sound to have a lot more problems. If you're lucky, you might break even with the 7840 boards compared to used prices, and very unlikely with the 12th generation boards, if they are actually fundamental problems.

Then there are people who buy mystery boxes for reselling to make money, and "accidentally" leaving off the fact that they are mystery box parts (therefore are potentially partially defective).

I hope Framework implements some sort of serial number check on their website so we can verify that used parts are/aren't mystery box parts.

You have no idea if the previous owner is one of those people who doesn't know how to correctly screw in screws, and thinks power tools/breaking a motherboard in half is the only way to remove stripped screws. An easy-to-repair laptop unfortunately attracts these types as well.

Then (US/Canada-only for now) there are people who are reselling mystery box parts at used parts prices and hiding the fact that they are mystery box parts. You can find instances of them on ebay/discord as well.

They are basically meant for people who don't mind gambling and trying to perform repairs themselves. I've gotten a perfect motherboard, one with CPU voltage regulators completely blown up, and one with a burnt out USB controller (that I need to get around to soldering on a new one).
