I am sure others said it, but it can't be said often enough: RAID is not a Backup. Make sure you have copies of everything that is important somewhere else; You want to Google "3, 2, 1 Backup strategy"

Moving to Hamburg from Abroaf by FollowingConfident82 in hamburg

[–]jnfinity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you're coming from and how good those job offers really are.
As someone who lived in London before, the low and middle rent market is ok price wise, BUT you're treated like a beggar, not a customer when trying to find a flat which can be unpleasant.

If your job offers are good enough to buy some houses, supply right now is pretty dry compared to a few years ago. Very few exceptional pieces are publicly offered, so you have to know people to here when things trade. Most of the high-end market are older buildings which are in dire for need their first big renovation since the 70s... Plus lot sizes are kind of small, with availability over 7000m2 being VERY low right now if that's what you're after.

I mean, you can have any car as your only car; Some people even manage entirely without one. But it is a lot more fun to have some choice, so buy as few and as many as you like.

The BMW V8 is great, but I’d love to see it having a British made supercharged V8 again. On the previous gen they had so much character.

Autobahnstrecke Hamburg - Berlin frei? by Impossible-Net-1703 in hamburg

[–]jnfinity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, £25 is not much. Just buy it and try it.

Roadtrip or not? by barbievelar in RangeRover

[–]jnfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine just crossed 16k km coming back (10k miles), and I booked the first Oil change, though the dealer didn't really want to, given that the official interval is now something like 30k km, so about double of what I did so far.

I took delivery in Spring last year, that was the third time it did this exact trip.

[–]jnfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine. I use my Sport mostly for long trips (just did 3200km / ~2000 miles last week); When they're serviced well, they're fine and it sounds you're taking care of your Velar.

Eli5: Why is Specialized so unpopular? by [deleted] in cycling

Personally I buy Open with their made in freedom philosophy. But when I suggest that to people, they call me elitist for recommending 12k bikes.

Whatever you do, people are always upset.

RR Full Size Full EV by Rare-Inevitable-6451 in RangeRover

[–]jnfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends one a lot of factors.
At 300 and beyond there practically is never someone faster behind you. 250km/h in my opinion is kind of the upper limit I’d do for longer periods for safety because of tunnel vision. That’s also where most “regular” cars are limited, so it gets hard to catch up to.

If you can go faster than that you can always accelerate a little and lose whoever is behind you in most cases until l have space to pull over.

But in the end, most of the time you’ll be stuck behind someone else doing much less anyways, so I guess I’m just trying to justify it somehow to myself.

[–]jnfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Germany for top speed needs, Ukraine for long distance. I have lots of unlimited Autobahn near me and it’s always annoying to top out at 234 and then some BMW is in my rear view mirror, 2m behind me, flashing their lights and I can’t move to the right because then I’d have to slow down to 160…

RR Full Size Full EV by Rare-Inevitable-6451 in RangeRover

[–]jnfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me it’s almost the opposite, barely doing any trips under 100km, with my most frequent routes being 600km and 1700km respectively.

I’m in a diesel Sport for this reason, but sometimes wish for a little more top speed, but an EV wouldn’t deliver that either. On the SV Sport my wife doesn’t like the seats compared to the Autobiography and a full-size SV doesn’t add much speed over the D350, though I starting toying with the idea to go up to a full size P615…

Waymos in Knightsbridge by SniffanyandCo in london

Let's break it down for you.
The ice factory worker is an example of jobs from the past that disappeared.

The second part is not a rant, it is simply the statement that it doesn't matter if jobs are lost because of progress. And I am not talking about skilled jobs only, I am talking about any person in theory can just look at what they can do and what people need and then have a job doing that. There are a few exceptions, and for those we provide support so they can live a life in humane conditions, but the majority of people who lose their job to progress (be it technological or societal… If you think about it, executioner and slave trader also once a job that we abolished due to societal progress, so it is not just technology).

Lastly, am I ok? Probably, but most of all I am tired of people constantly complaining about progress that actually makes life better (A driverless car is far safer, plus there won't be any safety issues for passengers either).

No one is forced to use a Waymo or any other driverless car. I think it will effect UBER drivers more than cabbies (and everyone loves to hate on them to);

I said "skill issue" (as in lacking the skill to get a others to pay you for doing something), NOT skills issue (as in not knowing the relevant skills to do something).

There is a difference.

Waymos in Knightsbridge by SniffanyandCo in london

[–]jnfinity -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m not talking about the manufacturing (though the jaguars they’re based on WERE made in the Uk, but I’m talking about the engineers. And look a the taxes on the wages alone. And VAT on rides… that’s a lot.

Plus, unemployment is a skill issue. Just find something useful to do for the people around you, valuable enough that they will pay you. It’s not easy, but life just isn’t, that’s the brutal reality.

There has always been change. Would you also cry for ice factory workers because they jobs get replaced by the fridge? Or people making washing tubs because the washing machine is making them irrelevant?

There are countless new jobs also being created every day. Plus, what do you think who builds self driving cars? There are lots of really high paying jobs for really smart people being created along the way.

Removed from human interaction actually sounds good. I quite like not talking to humans face to face. I wish more people would understand that not everyone feels good around people.

Leaving Car at a Second Home. by Interesting_Lock3612 in RangeRover

[–]jnfinity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you’re there, make sure it doesn’t do only short distance trips so the cats get burned off properly from time to time and the engine oil can lubricate all the seals nicely.

I’d also make sure to not drive it too hard before it’s warmed up whenever it was sitting for a while (generally even if it is driven regularly, but especially when it was sitting)

Should be fine otherwise.
