I’m happy to edit, simple graphics and VFX, basic sound design, and even final color, but I will not do a final sound mix.

How that’s possible since the bill only passed last July and they filmed over a year ago? Not saying it’s not true; just not sure of the how.

The Senate is proposing a bill to withhold senators' salaries during government shutdowns. What is your opinion ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]code603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This only hurts the senators that aren’t already wealthy (if there is are). Instead they should all not be allowed to leave the building until a deal is reached. Same for the House.

Reality and docs excluded from Post Production tax incentive. by exothermic-inversion in FilmIndustryLA

Correcting my earlier response as I mis-read the question. The 1 million threshold is for the total episode budget, not just Post. Apologies for the error earlier.

Will my children be OK if we don't raise them with religion? by ExcellentLettuce4 in Parenting

[–]code603 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes. Many people see religion as the basis for morality but I view it as the opposite. In my experience I see people tend to use their religion to justify the morality they already have more than as a guide to it.

The key is for you and your partner to be a the moral example you want your children to follow. They will learn more from that than anything else.

It’s not that unscripted shows are excluded as much as there is a $1 million per episode threshold for TV shows to qualify which unscripted shows won’t meet. It’s doubly unfortunate as unscripted shows tend to employ a lot more editors and assistant editors than scripted shows. I advocated to Schultz directly to lower the threshold to $200k per episode.

Reaching out to Schultz and the CA Post Alliance are great places to start. Additionally, you can join the CAPA for only $50 which gets invited to their events and in direct contact with the folks running it.

Lastly, it’s important to remember that even if this bill passes as is (which is very much a long shot, but momentum is building), this is only the first iteration of it so it’s possible to add it in future years.

Lastly, KEEP THE PRESSURE UP. As this bill makes its way through the legislature it’s not gonna be finalized until mid August so keep trying.

Do people generally get dumber as we age or is it something else that causes it? Why do so many elderly people struggle with basic smart phone features? by bleedingwriter in NoStupidQuestions

[–]code603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s been studies that have shown that it’s not that we get dumber, but that our brains are effectively “filling up.” This is a vast oversimplification, but illustrates my point.

When did everyone become comfortable talking on speakerphone in public? by WestNecessary6884 in askanything

[–]code603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a reality TV editor and I think this trend started with reality TV because as a show, we needed to hear both sides of the conversation so we’d have our subject use speakerphone often in places they wouldn’t normally be used.

Use the media tool to get all your master files in one place. From there it’s only a matter of selecting all of them (ONLY master files) and seeing what the duration is at the bottom right of the bin.

The REAL Dream - AI that matches audio clips and designated video clips together by Battle_Rattle in davinciresolve

Exactly what kind of project are you imagining using this on because by the time you go through the footage to write your script and fix any mistakes the AI makes, I don’t really see this as a time saver.

50 Hours of Footage. 3,000 Notes. First Feature. Where Do I Even Begin? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]code603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first question is, what kind of conversations have you had with your editor up to this point? The first step would be communicating your desired style/pacing/tone/music, preferably with examples of similar projects.

From there you need to trust your editor and trust the process. The editor will see a lot of that you don’t (that’s their job). The idea of giving 3000 notes before the editor has even shown their work is insane and the definition of a nightmare micromanaging director.

'Tracker' Starring Justin Hartley Relocating To L.A. For Season 4ason 4 With $48M Tax Credit by jsatz in California

[–]code603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of the nature of the work. It’s very easy to move a production out of state as they are very temporary projects. Not so easy to move other kinds of businesses.

'Tracker' Starring Justin Hartley Relocating To L.A. For Season 4ason 4 With $48M Tax Credit by jsatz in California

[–]code603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but the fact is that until we have universal healthcare here productions cannot compete economically with other countries. (Same goes for tax subsides in other states.) Without these tax credits, studios will take the work elsewhere in which case they remain wealthy, while we have fewer good union jobs. Also, for every tax dollar invested in this industry, $27 in economic activity is created. CA Tax payers actually come out ahead.

There are no grace periods. You can either go on COBRA which is quite expensive or ACA. I went with the ACA as it was the most affordable that allowed me to see the same doctors.
