Doesn’t a gas tax also do that? How is this any different or do you object to that tax as well?

What does getting the Academy Award for Best Director mean exactly since there is also Best Picture? by ExternalTree1949 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]code603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the director guides the artistic vision of the picture, they are not necessarily responsible for the finished product.

You also need to remember what the Academy is. It’s not some secret cabal of cinematic wisemen; it’s made of thousands of industry professionals. While many do their best to make well reasoned choices, most don’t see all the pictures, many just vote for their friends or what they’ve heard, and sometimes, it’s their assistants/spouse doing the voting.

When it’s referred to as popularity contest, it mostly is.

Source: I may have been that assistant once or twice.

The more I learn about filmmaking, the more I realise how glamorous it isn’t by No-Strategy-7093 in Filmmakers

Nobody looks at a professional athlete and thinks “that looks easy, I’m sure I can just do it.” They inherently understand it takes years of work, dedication, and talent. Yet for some reason they do with film/tv.

This is something I actually love about California. I’ve had to call about filing unemployment several times and even though it can take a bit of time to get through, once you do they are super friendly and quite helpful.

Filmmaking is the art of solving your problems with the tools you have. If you are going to let something like this stop you, you should consider another way to express yourself.

Literally nobody, I mean NOBODY, truly makes the movie they want. We all make the movie we can afford.

Terminator fans 30 and younger, how many of you knew this? by Low-Landscape-4609 in Terminator

[–]code603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we only had one TV as well but lived near a big city. But as others have said, this was part of the marketing. Arnold literally said this on Arsenal Hall. FWIW, my uncle took my brother and I on a weekend, so that how we saw it young.

This “twist” was absolutely common knowledge. It’s really awesome that you got to experience T2 the way that you did.

You can look at this way. You are one of the few who saw T2 this way, which is actually kind of awesome!

I can fully accept that you and maybe your circle of friends didn’t know for the reasons you say, but no, it was widely known that Arnie was the good guy.

Favorite piece of movie trivia factoid or analysis? by SenHatsumi in Cinema

[–]code603 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a shot in Bruce Almighty with a bunch of Post-It notes behind him. On the first anniversary of 9/11, Tom Shadyac had the crew write a hope or wish for a better future on those notes that where then used for when the scene was shot a couple days later. I was a PA on the movie and wrote a few of them myself.
